The Opportunity
We have multiple opportunities at the APS5, APS6, and EL1 levels within a high-profile federal government department. These roles are 12-month salaried non-ongoing contracts for those interested in joining the federal government.
Successful candidates will have the option to work in either the Canberra or Melbourne offices. In these positions, you will receive intentional training and development under the guidance of caring and professional mentors. The Role
Reporting to a highly experienced director, you will work in a dynamic team to manage key asset accounting and reporting. This department oversees a variety of significant and unique assets throughout Australia, which leads to interesting accounting treatments and unconventional considerations.
Key responsibilities for Financial and Asset Accountants include:
- Support the completion of the department's external financial reporting and Asset accounting functions, including journal preparation, reconciliations, balance sheet management, asset accounting, and financial statement analysis
- Provide advice to stakeholders on technical financial accounting and Asset-related issues
- Provide financial accounting services and advice on all aspects of financial statements, taxation, asset management, accounting policies, procedures, accounting standards, investment and treasury management, external financial reporting, and month-end processes
- Offer technical accounting advice and support to employees regarding financial policies, processes, systems, and issues while maintaining and managing complex relationships with internal and external clients, stakeholders, and service providers
- Research, analyse, review, and evaluate accounting issues, implementing policies, procedures, and processes, all while demonstrating a passion for initiating continuous improvement and driving change
To be successful in these roles, you should be a strong accounting technician with relevant qualifications. Having CPA/CA qualifications would be desirable. It is crucial to have demonstrated experience in being proactive, using problem-solving skills, and employing your influencing abilities to promptly resolve accounting issues, especially in the context of federal government operations.
Ideally, you will have experience in the federal government or come from a consulting or audit firm with experience in engagements related to the federal government.
To be successful at the EL1 level, you will need to demonstrate proficiency in managing, mentoring, and evaluating team and individual performance, all while providing regular feedback to team members. Having a background in federal government experience is highly valuable in this regard. A strong understanding of and compliance with governance requirements within the financial management framework is essential for success in this role.
Applicants must be Australian Citizens with a current AGSVA security clearance and have demonstrated knowledge of financial accounting principles (experience with assets is desirable).
Salary / Rate
- $83k - $130k + 15.4% Super
- 12-month non-ongoing contract with a view to permanency
