Job description

The Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) is responsible for managing the application of bankruptcy and personal property securities laws through the delivery of high quality personal insolvency and trustee, regulation and enforcement, and personal property securities services.

The Governance, Risk & Assurance section is a multidisciplinary team, made up of individuals passionate about what they do, how they do their work, and who bring diverse backgrounds, qualifications and experiences to AFSA. The section supports AFSA manage risk and drive strategic priorities by leading the co-ordination of a range of functions and setting standards for the agency in the areas of:

  • Internal audit and assurance
  • Enterprise risk management
  • Business continuity
  • Agency governance and secretariat

Purpose of the position

Supporting the Governance, Risk and Assurance section, the Governance, Risk & Assurance Officer will provide timely and high-level administration, including coordination and secretariat support. Working with a high level of autonomy and discretion, the Governance, Risk and Assurance Officer will work as part of a small team across the breadth of the work of the section, to deliver high quality work in partnership across the agency.  

Key accountabilities

Providing coordination and support to the Assistant Director Agency Assurance, the Manager, Risk and Business Continuity and the Governance, Risk and Assurance section as needed.

Preparing written material including correspondence, input to briefings, meeting minutes, agendas, reports and communications for internal and external stakeholders.

Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, to support effective governance outcomes and timely management of issues.

Support the achievement of the agency’s governance, risk and assurance outcomes, by assisting with developing and updating governance documentation, coordinating engagement

Support the enhancement of administrative practices, systems and procedures to optimise efficiency and accountability, and support the achievement of better practice and quality outcomes. 

Display a high degree of personal integrity and professionalism, share skills and knowledge with team members to develop skills, knowledge and behaviours to perform their owns roles and maintain a high-performance environment. 

Supporting effective corporate governance and management assurance practices, ensuring compliance with applicable Commonwealth and AFSA financial and legislative delegations, policies and practices.

Qualifications, accreditations and experience

The following will be highly regarded: 

  • Demonstrated experience in governance and support services
  • Strong and confident communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to make decisions and apply judgement to determine stakeholder needs and requirement.
