The Opportunity
Joining the Insurance Policy and Hazard Insurance Partnership Branch will give you the security of a 6-12-month labour contract, with extension options. Working in a small team, you will be working to increase the Australian Government’s understanding and inform investment in public mitigation and how it can impact communities’ risk and potential insurance affordability and availability for households.
- Direct impact role to Australian communities and help to provide support in times of crisis and disaster management
- Long-term labour hire contract opportunity
- Provide advice on high quality policy development, interpretation and implementation, including preparation of correspondence, communications, reports, briefings and responses to other requests
- Prepare robust, proactive and innovative written advice based on an understanding of the strategic and policy environment and related issues, evidence from research, stakeholder and user needs and organisational priorities
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including other Commonwealth organisations, state and territory governments and external service providers to deliver coordinated, effective monitoring and evaluation of the Agency’s initiatives
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Experience in resilience or disaster management would be beneficial but not required
- Must hold, or have ability to gain, a Baseline security clearance
You will be an experienced Policy Officer with sound research skills and demonstrated experience producing high quality briefs, draft policy material and other various correspondence. Experience in emergency management and/or disaster funding programs/policy at Commonwealth, state or local government level would be highly regarded.
You will also have the following skills/capabilities:
- An ability to research and analyse policy issues and prepare advice and reports on relevant activities or milestones for presentation to Senior Executive and key stakeholders
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and experience building and sustaining positive relationships with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders, and as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to make evidence-based decisions using strong analytical, research and problem solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, to enable briefing and advice to senior executives and ministers
- An ability to work independently, identify priorities, goals and objectives, and manage risks to deliver consistently high-quality outputs to meet targets and critical deadlines
- $65/hr - $80/hr + 11% super
- Flexibility to work from home up to two days per week

- You must hold a minimum baseline security clearance
