The Opportunity

The Role
The Legal Officer plays a pivotal role in managing litigation related to workers' compensation claims. Tasked with advocating the organisation's position, this role contributes to claims management improvement and oversees team members. Reporting to the Assistant Director, AAT Instructing, responsibilities include decision-making on appeals, providing training, and ensuring alignment with agency goals.
• Contribute to the employer’s purpose, Corporate Plan, and claims management strategy
• Deliver litigation instructing services aligned with claims management and litigation strategies
• Provide on-the-job training, feedback, support, and guidance to colleagues
• Make decisions on managing medium to low-risk AAT and court appeals
• Collaborate across the organisation and client agencies for consistent claims management and positive outcomes while ensuring alignment with agency goals

The ideal candidate possesses a comprehensive understanding of workers' compensation claims litigation. This individual should be committed to achieving positive outcomes for stakeholders, contributing to the organisation's goals, and seamlessly integrating legal processes.
• Extensive knowledge of workers' compensation claims and litigation processes
• Commitment to contributing to the organisation's goals and purpose
• Proven ability to deliver litigation instructing services aligned with claims management and litigation strategies
• Strong capability in providing effective on-the-job training, feedback, and guidance to colleagues
• Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions on managing reconsiderations, AAT, and court appeals
Salary / Rate
A salary of $90k - $105k + 15.4% super will be offered to the successful candidate. Whilst the initial contract will be 12 months, the role is vacant so extension or permanency could be offered.
