An APS 6 Security Advisor, you will be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex security administration. You will lead a small team comprising of APS, ADF and contracted staff. You will have a thorough knowledge of relevant physical, personnel and information security legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. You will provide detailed security technical, professional and policy advice and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management within a busy ADF intelligence school. High-level stakeholder engagement in relation to complex or sensitive issues will be required at times in both written and verbal form. Some tasks include:
- Answer complex protective security inquiries in accordance with Government policies.
- Operate and monitor Security Alarm, Key Storage and Electronic Access Control Systems.
- Deliver security induction briefs.
- Work collaboratively and operate as an effective team member to meet work area objectives.
- Collect, interpret, evaluate and process protective security requests in accordance with Agency policy and guidelines.
- Identify and report security incidents whilst using data to advise and implement measures to prevent or minimise future occurrences.
The APS 6 Security Advisor is a pivotal role within the Headquarters Team of Defence School of Intelligence (DSI), located at Kokoda Barracks, Canungra in Southeast Queensland. Our very small team is responsible for security governance, compliance and procedural support delivered to staff and future Defence intelligence professionals on behalf of the Commanding Officer DSI. DSI is a busy training establishment delivering a wide range of Defence intelligence training to military and APS personnel critical to achieving Australia’s national interests.Our Ideal Candidate
Our team needs a leader who will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of information and in the application of practices and procedures. To achieve the Security outcomes required you would need to demonstrate that you have or can quickly acquire detailed knowledge of Defence Security Policy Framework, and have the ability to work with physical security systems like Security Alarms Systems and Electronic Access Control System.
