Area Engineer - Surface Stations

The Area Engineer is a client-side role supporting our Surface Stations program of work which includes new stations on the Gold Coast and rebuild of Brisbane suburban stations. Supporting the full project lifecycle you will be involved in planning, design review, construction and commissioning. A key focus will be the monitoring, observation and reporting on site activities carried out by our construction delivery partners and working closely with our internal functions such as Commercial, Project Controls, Safety, Quality, Stakeholder, Environment and Interface Co-ordination teams. Your contribution will be key to ensuring our Surface Station Projects are completed to required technical requirements and to schedule.

Cross River Rail will transform the way we travel to, from and through Brisbane in the future. It will be a catalyst for 10 years of wider rail transformation across the whole of South East Queensland and it is already playing a key role in how we prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD. It includes the delivery of four new underground stations, two new above-ground stations, accessibility rebuilds for six stations, the construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, and the introduction of a new world-class ‘ETCS' signalling system.

About the Role

The Area Engineer is a client-side role supporting our Surface Stations program of work which includes new stations on the Gold Coast and rebuild of Brisbane suburban stations. Supporting the full project lifecycle you will be involved in planning, design review, construction and commissioning.

A key focus will be the monitoring, observation and reporting on site activities carried out by our construction delivery partners and working closely with our  internal functions such as Commercial, Project Controls, Safety, Quality, Stakeholder, Environment and Interface Co-ordination teams. Your contribution will be key to ensuring our Surface Station Projects are completed to required technical requirements and to schedule.

We have one position available supporting Merrimac Gold Coast Station build though assigned locations may change throughout the lifecycle of the program. This position will initially be based at our Brisbane CBD office during the design review process and move to being primarily site-based work.

This opportunity represent a fantastic opportunity for an project engineering professional to gain client-side experience on a transformational infrastructure project.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with safety requirements and promptly escalating risks and issues.
• Contribute to the progression from preliminary design development to detailed and final design, including value engineering, interactive D&C contractor workshops, and stakeholder coordination.
• Attend and proactively contribute to relevant area related meetings and workshops.
• Develop & maintain a high level of knowledge and understanding of current and upcoming project works for the Surface Stations Program.
• Attendance outside of regular working hours and on weekends to support scheduled project activities which need to occur outside of peak rail network usage.
• Liaise with internal technical resources to support the resolution of technical issues and completion of project activities.
• Provide monitoring and surveillance for station works, ensuring adherence to specifications and safety standards.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for effective communication of issues.
• Support program reporting and analysis deliverables.
• Assist with the resolution of Requests for Information, Inspection and Test Plans, Non-conformance Reports, Hold and Witness Points, General Quality and Safety Audits and other technical and quality related matters.

About You:

• Experience in overseeing work areas of construction projects to agreed timelines, budget and specifications.
• Ability to identify gaps, risks and opportunities across multiple disciplines and stakeholders for a program of works.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical and innovate approach to completion of tasks.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to create fit for purpose correspondence.
• Tertiary qualifications in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or trade qualifications and comparable experience.
