About the role
The Wood Yard Manager will oversee all operations within the Wood Yard, ensuring the efficient handling, processing, and storage of wood materials. This role is critical to maintaining a steady supply of raw materials to our pulp and paper production lines while adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
Duties
Reporting to the Pulp Mill Manager, key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Manage daily operations of the Wood Yard, including the receipt, storage, and processing of wood materials.
- Develop and implement operational procedures to optimize efficiency and safety.
- Coordinate with suppliers and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of wood materials.
- Supervise and train Wood Yard staff, ensuring high performance and adherence to company policies.
- Monitor and maintain equipment, scheduling regular maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, conducting regular audits and inspections.
- Manage inventory levels, tracking wood supply and usage to prevent shortages or overstock.
- Collaborate with other departments, including procurement, production, and quality control, to ensure seamless operations.
- Analyse operational data and generate reports for senior management, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
What you will bring to the team
- Tertiary education in forestry, or pulp and paper, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Wood Yard or related environment, preferably within the pulp and paper industry.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Strong understanding of wood processing equipment and maintenance requirements.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations in the pulp and paper industry.
- Proficient in using inventory management software and other relevant computer applications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
