This role is an 80% load - either 4 full days or 5 shorter days per week.
The Organisation
ARK Centre is a Not-For-Profit Community Centre, with a Modern-Orthodox Synagogue at its core. ARK’s mission is to offer a modern-day approach to Orthodox Judaism enabling inclusive and genuine connections for our ever-changing community, as well as reaching out to other groups. Founded in 2008, ARK Centre moved into its current location in East Hawthorn in 2014. ARK Centre is a youthful and growing Jewish Community Centre comprising a synagogue, Kosher caterer, and venue space.
The Culture
Everyone is clear on their role and how they contribute to the overall purpose of ARK Centre. As well as paid employees, ARK utilises a number of sub-committees comprising volunteers who are on the Board and/or who are members of our community. The permanent team includes the Office Coordinator, Catering Manager, Rabbi and Rebbetzin.
The Role
Daily Business Activities
- Improving overall business functioning – systems covering Shul database, financial processes, payroll preparation, catering and events provisions
- Day-to-day management of ARK Centre staff
- Event Coordination – both external and internal. Liaising with all parties
- Connecting and engaging with members and other stakeholders
- Managing budgets within the various business units
- Developing strategic plans
- Developing Events / Programs - internally for Jewish education, externally for community engagement
- Strategy for marketing / communications – development and implementation
- Applying for and reporting on deliverables & acquittals for various Grants
- Creating and updating policies and procedures
Higher Level Business Management
- Adherence to and implementation of Statutory requirements with regards to employment matters and financial requirements.
- Procedures – all with the end aim of ensuring the business runs smoothly
- Reviewing and updating organisational structure as required
- Marketing
- Communications
- Coordination of Annual Magazine
- Fundraising – opportunities, Grants
Board Requirements
- Written report for monthly board meetings
- Attendance at monthly board meetings (after hours)
- Attendance / reporting for various sub-committees
Your Experience
- Detailed understanding of, and respect for, Modern Orthodox Judaism is essential
- Positive attitude, approachable, warm
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
- Results-driven mentality and an innate sense of integrity
- A disciplined attitude and approach
- Ability to be organised and you must possess excellent attention to detail
- Unbeatable time management with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines
- High level of confidentiality
- Demonstrable intermediate level of MS Suite of products
Requirements
- All ARK Centre employees and volunteers must hold a valid WWC check
