About Us
The Office for Early Childhood Development has been formed with a clear mandate. To create a fairer and better future for all children in South Australia by implementing the accepted recommendations of the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care.
As the steward of the early childhood development system, the Office will act on government's behalf, and work in collaboration with the sector, to organise and connect the system to reduce developmental vulnerability.
This includes strategy for the provision of quality preschool for all three and four-year-olds, supporting for families in the first 1000 days of a child’s life and implementing a workforce strategy.

About the Role
As a Senior Policy Officer, you will lead critical programs, delivering complex policy analysis and briefings to support the implementation of Royal Commission recommendations. Your role involves providing leadership in Child Protection and ECEC policy, contributing to the design and delivery of critical programs of work including referral pathways, outreach and integrated services hubs, and addressing key issues in Child Protection reforms. You will work to ensure the inclusion of children and families in early childhood education and care across South Australia.
About you
You're an experienced policy professional specialising in Child Protection services and early childhood education and care (ECEC) policy. You excel in strategic planning, project management, and fostering robust stakeholder relationships. With outstanding communication skills, you autonomously manage tasks and projects with efficiency and precision. Your expertise is sought to provide guidance on collaborating with the Department for Child Protection (DCP) and the Department of Human Services (DHS) to enhance outcomes for children by leveraging existing systems to improve outcomes for children in South Australia.
What you’ll bring
As a Senior Policy Officer - Child Protection, the ideal candidate will possess the following experience and qualifications:
Experience and knowledge:
- Experience in the development of Child Protection policy or operational delivery of Child Protection services.
- Knowledge of Child Protection services and key issues to be addressed through ECEC reforms.
- Understanding of barriers to ECEC and education for children in out-of-home care or at risk of Child Protection.
- Knowledge of or experience in delivering family support services aimed at preserving the family unit.
- Knowledge of Child Protection systems, services, process, programs, and data.
Qualifications
- An appropriate tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or relevant vocational experience and knowledge.
- Knowledge of the early childhood education sector would be highly beneficial.

Special Conditions
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.

Remuneration
ASO7: $106,512 - $115,137 per annum plus superannuation
