Halcyon Knight is looking for a ASO8 Site Reliability Engineer for its state government client for a permanent role. You'll play a pivotal role in modernizing and transforming digital government services for the South Australian community. By influencing strategy and leading system infrastructure improvements, you'll contribute to enhancing the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of critical systems.
THE ROLE
- Lead Infrastructure Enhancement: Spearhead the planning and implementation of system infrastructure improvements, ensuring enhanced availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency through hands-on configuration of complex components.
- DevOps Strategy Leadership: Drive the evolution of a DevOps Tools & enablement strategy, actively developing and implementing automation strategies, processes, and procedures to achieve automation objectives, including the adoption of automation tools and frameworks.
- Computing Architecture Optimization: Manage the enhancement of the organization's computing architecture, focusing on improving the design and operation of citizen-facing systems to enhance scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
- Technical Expertise: Provide expert guidance to address complex infrastructure challenges, ensuring operations adhere to service management and security frameworks.
- Automation Champion: Drive automation initiatives by automating tasks, deployment, and testing through infrastructure as code practices while maintaining code quality.
- System Reliability and Performance: Ensure the reliability and performance of critical citizen-facing systems by implementing strategies to ensure high availability and performance.
- Performance Issue Resolution: Identify patterns in system performance issues and develop strategies and policies to overcome them.
- Effective Communication: Communicate effectively with leadership and development teams to introduce new policies and oversee their implementation.
- Team Leadership and Digital Advocacy: Foster team cohesion, productivity, and collaboration within Major Programs, while acting as a digital ambassador by supporting recruitment efforts and identifying industry best practices.
ABOUT YOU
- Experience with UNIX-like operating systems and web application technologies such as Linux, databases, backups, and CDNs.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Typescript, Java, Python, JavaScript, .NET).
- Extensive experience managing public cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS.
- Expertise in public cloud services and orchestration tools like Pulumi, Terraform, and GitOps.
- Familiarity with methodologies such as test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
- Proven track record as a DevOps Engineer or a similar role within large and complex organizations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of integration technology, automation, and cloud coding languages.
- Deep understanding of network security, databases, and cloud systems.
- Proficiency in scripting languages, system and server administration, and large-scale system deployments.
- In-depth understanding of relevant government policies and agency procedures, as well as their application to operational and enterprise ICT infrastructure, systems, functionality, and implementation strategies.
- Strong leadership capabilities, including coordination, consultation, motivation, delegation, and monitoring within an environment of change.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, emphasizing relationship building and developing mutual understanding.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, showing initiative and decision-making skills in complex operational contexts aligned with established corporate goals and government policies.
