Multicultural Australia is a leading Queensland multicultural organisation, providing settlement services for migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum. We aim to grow multicultural values across our State and to empower newly arrived Queenslanders from diverse cultural and language backgrounds through advocacy, community development and a range of client services.

About the role:

Multicultural Australia is currently offering an opportunity for ASRACase Coordinator to work as part of our Client Services department. The role of the ASRA Case Coordinator is to provide light-touch case coordination to individuals and families arriving to Australia on temporary visas and seeking protection. The ASRA Case Coordinator is responsible to provide welcome, initial arrival assessment, case coordination, education, referrals, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement with the ASRA Consortium, cultural/faith communities, and community and government organisations. Verbal and written proficiency in both Arabic and English is essential for this role. 

The role is Part time Fixed term maximum period of 6-Months based in Brisbane. 

Responsibility:

Among other duties, the successful candidate will:

  • Deliver case coordination services that are culturally competent to individuals from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances;
  • Conduct an initial psychosocial needs assessment with each client and their family and create a needs-and aspirations-focused case management plan;
  • Provide emotional support to clients applying culturally responsive and trauma-informed practice, using discretion to escalate to a Supervisor where required;
  • In line with MA policy and procedures, collaborate with volunteers, CSWs, and bicultural workers to provide direct case management to specific clients and their families;
  • Assist clients in building meaningful social relationships, such as ties with individuals of their culture, place of origin, or religious community, and offer cultural orientation and life skills development;
  • When necessary, offer crisis intervention support to address urgent requirements, reporting to your Line Manager any events that put a client, agency, employee, or organisation at risk;  
  • When necessary, take part in team meetings and case conferences;
    Where required; development, organisation and facilitation of group-based activities, information sessions, and programs;
  • Ensure that case notes and reporting are timely and recorded in the case management system; 
  • Keep up productive, cooperative working connections with important stakeholders to guarantee efficient service planning and delivery to clients;
  • Provide client-centred advocacy, collaborate with community and governmental organisations to provide avenues for suitable service options for individual clients, and establish client-focused advocacy;
  • Offer case management assistance to areas outside of the Southeast Queensland region, where required;
  • As instructed by the appropriate Supervisor, participate in the drop-in centres, networking events, and community awareness-raising initiatives; and
  • Other duties as directed by management.
     

What qualifications and skills do I need?

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have effective communication and interpersonal skills. As well as having a confident and positive personality, you will possess:

  1. Possession of Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Community Services) or Diploma of Community Services (Case Management). Other relevant qualifications (including overseas qualifications) or experience may be recognised.
  2. Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills in relation to both intra-organisational relationships (i.e., between program areas) and inter-organisational relationships (i.e., between collaborating organisations and agencies), including the ability to negotiate for outcomes that are beneficial to clients.
  3. Strong verbal and written Arabic and English language communication and cross-cultural communication skills and an excellent understanding and knowledge of issues in relation to support of people seeking asylum, and Humanitarian entrants.
  4. Able to prioritise and respond to competing demands in an organized and timely manner.
  5. Psychosocial assessment and case management experience and the ability to develop culturally appropriate case coordination plans to enhance the settlement of refugees and humanitarian entrants.
  6. Developed skills in meeting deadlines with competing priorities and well-developed problem-solving skills.
  7. Resilience and tenacity to work collaboratively and positively in a fast paced and diverse work environment.
  8. Ability to write case plans, complete reports and any other professional documents within strict timeframes.
  9. Computer literacy and good working knowledge of MS Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel.
     

Successful candidate will be required to have a valid driver’s licence, police check and apply for a Working with Children Blue Card
