About the role:
This local council are seeking an Asset Protection Officer with previous council experience to join their team on an initial 3 months temporary contract, with the opportunity for extension.
Responsible for undertaking inspections following Asset Protection and Drainage Permit applications to ensure Council assets are not negatively impacted, while also ensuring works are undertaken in accordance with the requirements of Council standards and all relevant authorities to ensure safety.
Duties and responsibilities for this role:
- Provide advice and information regarding the Asset Protection Permit process and Local Law as required
- Undertake inspections for compliance with legal point of discharge permits for stormwater management
- Perform inspections prior to and at the completion of building works to confirm the condition of Council’s Assets and/or damage caused
- Communicate with appropriate departments and prioritise works as required to remedy Council’s assets if required
- Investigate and resolve any breaches relating to the Asset Protection permit, promote compliance and where necessary enforce the requirements and provision under the terms of the Local Law
- Issue infringement notices for non-compliance and notices to comply as required
- Ensure complaints are investigated promptly and satisfactorily resolved
- Maintain inspectorial records as required
- Input and retrieve data, and prepare correspondence as required
- Prepare court briefs for solicitors and or Prosecutions Officer and if necessary give evidence in Court
- Where necessary the Officer will install safety around areas left hazardous to the public or undertake works to ensure Council Land in the Road Reserve is safe for the public. This may include the cleaning up of areas where pedestrians access to ensure the area is safe.
- As required, undertake out of hours building noise patrols.
- Demonstrated experience in a relevant or similar field of construction, civil works or Local Laws or in an organisation providing services to the general public and service authorities.
- Proven experience in undertaking investigations and conducting enforcement activities.
- Knowledge of construction practices and techniques, regulations relating to road works and engineering design principles
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies to enable service delivery.
- The ability investigate a range of policy options for issues based on an understanding of the underlying principles.
- Proficiency in the use and broad knowledge of computer applications.
- Skills in managing time, setting priorities, planning and organising one’s own work and that of supervised employees (if any) within resources and a set timetable.
- Well developed written, verbal, negotiation communication skills.
- A proven ability in administrative procedures including preparation of reports and correspondence.
- The ability to discuss and resolve problems, including inconsistencies or difficulties in applying policies and procedures to unusual situations.
