The Role
The Memorial’s Research Centre holds the written records of war, both published and unpublished. The Research Centre manages and provides access to these collections. The Digitised Collections team curates, digitises and publishes the Research Centre Digitised Collection, creates and maintains nominal data rolls, and supports the Memorial’s public programs, exhibitions and projects.
The work involves maintaining and monitoring digitisation workflows and includes image ingestion into the Memorial’s Digital Asset Management System (DAMS), copyright research and the arrangement, description and cataloguing of Research Centre collection material using the Memorial’s Collection Management System. The position also involves some client correspondence and research and record amendments relating to nominal data rolls, contributes to the selection of material to be digitised, participates in the reference roster as required and supports the promotion of the Digitisation Collection by the production of talks, blogs and social media posts. This position may involve handling potentially distressing material.
Core Responsibilities
- Contribute to and maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Maintain and monitor digitisation workflows including image production and ingestion into the Memorial’s Digital Asset Management System (DAMS).
- Liaise with internal and on occasion external stakeholders.
- Arrange, describe and catalogue Research Centre collection material in line with archival principles utilising the Memorial’s Collection Management System.
- Undertake copyright research including securing permissions and/or application of exemptions to enable digitised material to be released online.
- Collection rehousing, movement, ingestion, image quality assurace, maintainance of statistics and undertake data clean up as required.
- Undertake client correspondence, research, record amendments and assist in the creation of nominal data rolls.
- Contribute to the selection process of material to be digitised.
- Provide support for Research Centre and Memorial priorities as required, including by participating in the reference roster, corporate projects and events.
- Support the promotion of the Digitisation program by the production of blogs, talks, social and other media.
