The Collections Services Group is responsible for the development, management, and preservation of the AIATSIS Collection. The Group manages, describes, preserves, and digitises the AIATSIS Collection.
About the Program Area
The Collection Preservation and Digitisation (CPD) Program sits within the Collection Services Group. CPD is responsible for the preservation digitisation of Audio visual, Photographic, Manuscript and Published Print and, Art and Object Collections, The digitisation teams manage the pipeline of preservation work and carry out preservation using cameras, scanners, playback systems and software to comply with standards set by the National Archives of Australia and in line with international best practice.
The unit is also responsible for the creation of digital content to support exhibitions, displays and other projects for the Institute.
About the Role
The Assistant Director Preservation Digitisation (Linear Media) undertakes complex tasks under limited direction. They provide specialist knowledge in collection preservation digitisation of Linear Media and engage independently with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Independent decision making related to their area of responsibility is required.
The key duties of the position include
- provide expert knowledge and advice on collection digitisation across Moving Picture Film, Video and Audio media.
- lead and coordinate the work of digitisation teams in meeting the requirements for the creation of digital content to support the delivery of projects, exhibitions and displays.
- collaborate with the Director to prioritise and allocate resources to meet KPIs for the preservation digitisation of Collection material.
- implement continuous improvement programs to ensure the ongoing efficient delivery of preservation digitisation and content creation.
- coordinate and carry out special projects by undertaking research of a complex nature.
- engage with stakeholders and donors regarding the Preservation and Digitisation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander materials.
- contribute to the achievement of AIATSIS goals and objectives, including providing advice and representing the unit at internal and external meetings and forums.
