The role
The Assistant Financial Accountant specialises in financial record-keeping to maintain comprehensive financial records, process transactions, and ensure the accuracy of financial information. This position supports the finance team by executing record-keeping tasks, including ongoing reconciliations and assisting in the preparation of month-end files while adhering to accounting principles and company policies. The role will also be required to assist in supporting our credit control team with invoice management and occasional assistance in payment collection.
Job summary/responsibilities:
- Account Reconciliation: Perform bank reconciliations and reconcile account balances to ensure accurate financial reporting and ledger maintenance.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collection of debts, maintaining meticulous records of all financial transactions.
- Audit Support: Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing necessary schedules and reports, ensuring all financial transactions are properly documented.
- Financial Policies and Procedures: Contribute to the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures to improve efficiency and internal controls.
- Financial Record-Keeping: Maintain up-to-date and accurate financial records, including journal entries and ledger maintenance, ensuring that all financial transactions are correctly categorized and recorded.
Qualifications, skills and experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from a recognised institution in Australia, providing a strong foundation in accounting principles and financial management.
- Attention to detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial data and preparing reports.
- Team collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments to achieve financial objectives.
- Problem-solving: Ability to identify financial discrepancies and propose practical solutions.
- Knowledge of accounting standards: Familiarity with Australian Accounting Standards and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Analytical skills: Strong analytical abilities to interpret financial data and prepare reports.
- Technical proficiency: Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite.
