About the Centre
Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre is located in City of Boroondara and boasts 5 pools, 2 courts, a health club, 3 group fitness rooms, a creche, cafe, and allied health suites and receives over 900,000 visits annually. "APARC" currently has over 2,200 swimming lessons enrolments and 2,500 members.
About the role
The Assistant Manager at Ashburton Pool & Recreation Centre will manage and lead teams of employees as well as other centre leaders in assigned areas and ensure that the delivery of the programs and services meets agreed standards. They will lead, inspire, and motivate teams through clear and achievable team goals and ensure high standards of implementation of Policies and Procedures.
The Assistant Manager will be a key leader within the local community and provide leadership and the vision for the operation of the facility and playing a broader role within both the YMCA and Council including:
- Directly oversee teams and programs such as facility rental, bookings, and Duty Managers
- Directly oversee at least 1 middle manager as a direct report (Operations Senior Coordinator)
- Act regularly as a delegate/deputy of the Centre Manager
- Have shared responsibility and accountability with the Centre's overall performance
- Act as the Centre Manager in the Centre Managers absence, including across other sites within the Boroondara contract as needed.
- Communicate/liaise directly with Council on contract related matters and incidents
About you
As Assistant Manager, you will be a considered decision maker and will be able to manage a multitude of tasks utilising good time management and organisational skills. Additionally, you will be:
- Able to present the YMCA to the local community as well as provide leadership and vision for the facility and its staff.
- Able to work both independently and as part of the leisure team.
- An excellent oral and written communicator, you will be able to work in partnership with the City of Boroondara team as well as other community groups to develop programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
- Self-motivated, able to engage staff and the community and will be able to drive the business, while maintaining the assets under your control.
- Organised and have a demonstrated ability to engage staff and improve business performance, with strong project management skills.
- Focused on the customer experience and cultivate a culture of continuous learning amongst the staff teams.
- Well acquainted with general business and financial acumen.
- Be able to foster a culture of safety at the facility and have experience managing risk
- Aligned with the Y's values is critical for this role.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience in a similar leadership role within the Sports & Recreation industry will be highly regarded but if you have significant team leadership and budget management experience from a different industry, we would love to hear from you.
- Tertiary qualifications in Sports Management, Business Management, or other related field will be highly regarded
- Previous leadership experience is essential
- HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
- Pool Lifeguard qualification (preferred)
