AddressPeterborough School for Specific Purposes (SSP), located in Warilla NSW, supports students with additional learning needs. Peterborough School has a current enrolment of 112 students and supports students from Kindergarten to Year 12 with moderate to severe intellectual disability, and/or Autism. Students may have a secondary disability which could include sensory needs, vision or hearing impairment, physical impairment, complex mental health needs and behaviours. Staff are committed to delivering high quality education for all students. Of the current student enrolment, 11% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 11% of students are learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D). A large percentage of students require significant communication and/or language support. The school focuses on developing communication, literacy, numeracy, and life skills and has a whole school approach to regulation and behaviour. Peterborough School utilises Zones of Regulation (ZoR) and Four Blocks to support student learning.
Selection CriteriaIn addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach Special Education and/or experience and expertise to improve learning outcomes for students K-12 with autism, intellectual disabilities, complex health and diverse needs.
Evidence of building and maintaining positive, inclusive, trusting relationships and partnerships with students, families, staff, external agencies, and the wider community.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a dynamic leadership team; strategically planning, leading and monitoring initiatives, and applying evaluative practices to drive continuous improvement.
Proven ability to lead and implement high-quality differentiated curriculum including the development and implementation of student individual education plans and behaviour support plans that impact positively on student engagement, a culture of inclusion and whole school improvement.
General Selection Criteria1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
