About the role:

The Financial Institutions Portfolio team (FIP) at MUFG is looking for a highly motivated team player with strong credit and analytical skills and solid working knowledge of Funds Finance to support on-going growth within the sector. The individual will be based in Sydney.

In your role as Associate, FI Portfolio, you will sit within the Front Office Credit & Portfolio function (C&P) of the Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB) business in Oceania.  The role supports the business in key functional areas: quality analysis and monitoring of credits with consistent and timely reporting, and management of a portfolio of Funds Finance, Securitisation, Banks and Diversified Financials. 

The role will support the continued growth in the FI franchise by providing additional technical “bench strength” to the FI Portfolio. The successful candidate will have a genuine career path with ample opportunity to step up to autonomously manage the credit process/monitoring of a portfolio of clients.  You will be working with market leading Originators, Relationship Managers, Product Partners and our Credit team.

What you’ll be doing:

Supporting the management of a portfolio of FF / SEC / Diversified Financials customers with a focus on credit quality monitoring and the achievement of the Bank’s risk / return targets through:                    

  • Conducting annual credit reviews and internal rating reviews
  • Covenant compliance monitoring
  • Supporting refinancing and other revenue initiatives across the portfolio
  • Coordinating within the MUFG network
  • Client interactions as required/appropriate
  • Any other required tasks in accordance with the Bank’s policies and procedures and required to support the broader FI business
  • MUFG standards need to be maintained and supported at all times

What we are looking for:

  • 3-5 years experience in corporate and institutional lending / debt advisory at a major bank or chartered accounting firm
    • Candidates from credit rating agencies, advisory houses, investment management firms or corporate treasury teams will also be considered
  • Tertiary Qualifications in related field including Finance, banking, business related degree from a leading university
  • Outstanding quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; strong knowledge of finance and accounting
  • Previous banking / credit / advisory experience, including within the Financial Institutions and Funds Finance/Sponsor space 
  • Strong financial analysis, modelling and general excel skills essential and ideally some loan documentation experience (including ISDAs)
  • Possess an understanding of financial and economic markets in general
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills with ability to create and maintain relationships
  • Be able to engage in independent research and analysis of customers and markets and apply critical thinking and a high level of attention to detail
  • The ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally
  • Has strong interpersonal and presentations skills
  • Is a team player
  • Is a self-starter who applies initiative and has drive and enthusiasm
  • Has an analytical mindset and problem solving skills
  • Has the ability to work independently and prioritise a number of tasks across various work streams and alongside a number of stakeholders
