How will I help?

Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB) manages the financial needs of corporate, institutional and government clients that are based, or have interests in, Australia and New Zealand. Within WIB’s Financial Institutions, Public Sector and Health (FIPSH), the Customer Insights & Analytics (CI&A) team provides a high level of specialist industry and counterparty research in respect of the FIPSH sectors, providing input on sector, customer strategies, and supporting the growth of business globally.

As an Associate Director within FIPSH CI&A, you will be responsible for efficiently managing a portfolio of primarily non-bank financial institutions (NBFI) and financial institutions (FI) customers, including the origination process for new transactions and the ongoing monitoring and management of the existing customer portfolio. You will monitor and research market and industry trends, such as: economic, regulatory and competitive change, to provide relevant industry insights and thought leadership to internal and external stakeholders in your portfolio and the broader FI and NBFI portfolio. You will also build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and clients to help originate and structure a range of banking transactions. 

Other major accountabilities you will be involved in with include: 

  • Writing credit submissions with a detailed risk analysis, assessment, and recommendations
  • Complete reviews and new requests/originations, owning and driving the credit approval process
  • Manage credit and portfolio risk by preparing annual reviews, actioning triggers, and monitoring covenants
  • Presenting and negotiating submissions through WIB’s risk management decision process 
  • Bringing an in-depth industry knowledge to lead, coach and develop more junior colleagues
  • Demonstrating intimate knowledge of customers through client meetings, research and interactions with stakeholders to build an environment of trust with key stakeholders

What do I need?

To be successful in this role you will have solid experience in wholesale banking or related, with a thorough understanding of the NBFI and FI space. You will also have a strong proficiency in credit writing and credit assessment. Deep expertise in finance organisations and the funds sectors is highly regarded.

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Competency to maintain multiple priorities 
  • Ability to build strong and lasting relationships with a variety of stakeholders and external clients
  • At least 5 years wholesale banking, credit, NBFI, and FI experience
  • Tertiary qualified in an analytical focused field such as finance, business, or economics
