Status: Full Time Fixed Term (until 30 June 2025)
Salary: $85,400 - $89,435 p.a. + 11% superannuation contribution

About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.
About the Opportunity
As Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner - Rheumatic Heart Disease Project you will, upskill and deliver comprehensive Rheumatic Heart Disease primary health care services within a multidisciplinary team, consistent with the Apunipima Way and Model of Care. This position acts as a role model in the provision of holistic care, which aims to:
- Prevent and reduce the incidence of Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD)
- Aid in the early detection of Rheumatic Heart Disease
- Improve the management of Acute Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Health Disease in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Cape York Communities.
Pre-employment screening for vaccination against Vaccine Preventable Diseases and AFP National Police Check will be conducted for the successful applicant.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice and current registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- More than four years of experience as a health worker with demonstrated proficiency in clinical practice environments, emphasising integrated client care.
- Experience in conducting clinical work and health education within primary healthcare settings.
- Ability to mentor and support the development of other health workers and less experienced Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners.
- Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs
- Current Queensland Driver's Licence
