  • Full time, fixed term role until 2028 located with the Charles Perkins Centre
  • Significantly contribute within the School of Medical Sciences as a Bioinformatic Postdoc
  • Base Salary starting at $105,350 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Hayes Lab (Ancestry & Health Genomics Lab) located within the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney is hiring. We are looking for a self-driven RNA-based computational biologist to join an internationally funded, highly diverse cancer, population and computational genomic team focused on determining the underlying contributions to prostate cancer health disparities.

The successful candidate should have a proven record of expertise in RNA-based bioinformatics, developing analytical workflows and computational biology, while a background in cancer genomics and both short- and long-read data sources would be encouraged. The successful candidate should be looking to launch their career within an established 4-year project. They will be expected to lead RNA-based data and associated statistical analytics, disseminate their findings via both publication and presentation to the research community, work independently and within a larger multi-omic and multi-disciplinary team, including geographically dispersed members and consortia, co-supervise honours and postgraduate students, while being encouraged to develop longer-term research goals and career path.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • conduct research, scholarly or professional activity, independently and as part of a team, contributing to discipline knowledge
  • provide significant contributions to publications and research communications
  • develop and refine independent research skills under the supervision of more senior academic staff and collaborative networks
  • provide informal mentoring and advice to students within discipline
  • carry out administrative tasks and contribute to faculty/school meetings
  • contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
  • understand and contribute to furthering the university and faculty/school strategic agenda
  • undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

  • PhD in a relevant field is required
  • demonstrated understanding of the subject-matter within the discipline
  • experience conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity
