Job description

The Glennie School is an Anglican school for girls in Toowoomba, providing an exceptional education for Kindergarten to Year 12 students with boarding from Year 5. The School enjoys an excellent reputation for the quality of its programs, care and support offered to students, as well as the commitment, dedication, and professionalism of its staff.

About the role:

The School is currently seeking Boarding House Supervisors for casual, term-time positions. We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic, capable, and responsible persons who invest in making a positive difference in the boarding lives of Glennie girls within the nurturing environment of The Glennie School’s Boarding Houses. These positions requires applicants who:

  • enjoy working with young adolescents;
  • are willing to organise and coordinate enrichment activities to engage the boarders;
  • are able to offer tutoring and academic support to the boarders;
  • have the ability to problem-solve and take a commonsense approach to student issues; and
  • have strong administration skills.

The successful applicants must be able to work afternoons, evenings and weekends. Rosters are across seven days per week during school term time with afternoon, evening and weekend shifts available. Afternoon and evening shifts commence at 3:00pm or 6:00pm until 10:00pm. It is essential that our Boarding Supervisors have availability to complete sleepover shifts in the Boarding House at times.

Depending on the successful applicant, live-in onsite residential accommodation, inclusive of utilities, may be available for the right candidate. Boarding Supervisors are entitled to meals in the dining room during their rostered shift. For residential assistants who reside onsite in school-supplied accommodation, all meals during term time are included. Residential roles hours of work are 10 hours per week minimum with accommodation and meals as remuneration. Hours above this minimum are paid.

The Glennie School prides itself on the values that are imparted to students and will require the successful applicant to be supportive of the Anglican Ethos and comply with all state and legislative requirements under the operation of an independent school.

About You:

  • Experience in working with young adolescents in a boarding environment would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Strong administrative skill set to work the Boarder's Reception shift over weekends.
  • An ideal role model for our boarding students: confident, empathetic, collaborative, resilient, resourceful, ethical, reliable, punctual, proactive, well-dressed and groomed.
  • Demonstrated experience in communication, teamwork, organisation, time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • A clear understanding of the needs of students from regional backgrounds.
  • Ability to build relationships with a range of students from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • An ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to engage and work with a range of stakeholders, particularly young people and their parents.
  • Contribute to the safety, health, care and development of boarders while cultivating a nurturing, fun and supportive environment.
  • A proactive person who actively engages with students and creates opportunities for connection and wellbeing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, high attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritise work and multi-task.
  • Maintain a visible and active presence in the Boarding House
  • Participate and be committed to undertaking boarding staff professional development (including a start of term whole of boarding professional development).
  • Familiarity with legal obligations relating to child safety including mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Current Working with Children Check (blue card) and First Aid qualifications.
  • Right to Work in Australia, visa sponsorship is not available.

The successful applicant will enjoy a fast-paced work environment in a dedicated boarding team.

We value and acknowledge the skills, energy, and commitment of our employees.

Your application:

Please address your application to the Head of Boarding and include a cover letter, CV (please include current Working With Children Check blue card and First Aid training details), and the names and email contact details of two referees. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

University students, and students currently completing tertiary education are encouraged to apply.

Please note, we will not proceed with applications that do not have the above information.
