Are you an experienced Branch Manager in the Cargo/Air Freight industry?
Our client – AMI Air Menzies International (part of the Menzies Aviation Group), is currently looking for a Branch Manager to oversee their operation in Brisbane, QLD.
Reporting directly to the Vice President APAC, this is a great opportunity for an experienced Branch Manager to join this company.
  
Salary: Commensurate with skills and experience
Reports to: Vice President Operations – Asia Pacific
Location: AMI Brisbane
Status: Permanent Full-time
  
Overview
This is a hands-on management position that has direct influence on the performance and results of the Branch. This position will manage and oversee our Import, Export, Courier, Ocean, Warehouse and Transport teams and also oversee functional reports with your Sales team. It is expected that much time and dedication will be required to fulfil this position.
This position is responsible for ensuring a successful outcomes on all business interactions for the stakeholders. Ensuring a high standard of customer service and maintaining a standard of prompt and efficient freight movement this Branch Manager is responsible and accountable to ensure the accuracy of data entry recorded both manually and via Freightpac (in-house Freight System) according to company and industry regulations and standards. You will set budgets accordingly with your reporting manager, to ensure revenue and profit goals are consistently met.
In conjunction with your Sales team, you will conduct regular customer visits to develop and improve customer relations and performance and gain new business.
You will work closely with your team to ensure the most effective and productive performance is maintained with regular discussions of department and individual KRAs and KPIs. By providing leadership and maintaining a level of professional behaviour from all employees, it is expected that you will develop and coach your team to provide a culture of learning and development in all areas of the business.
  
Main accountabilities include
Safety & Security:
  • Maintain a high priority of security and safety for our people, visitors, property, freight and operations.
  • Ensure all aspects related to safety, security, environmental and compliance requirements for the Branch are implemented and followed by all employees and visitors
  • Ensure each calendar year that only the Current DGR Manual is available and in use (Manual or CD DGR).
  • All warehouse machinery, equipment and company vehicles to be maintained and treated with safety, kept clean and in good working condition.
  • Ensure all employees maintain a tidy and efficient work environment.
  • Ensure employees understand and follow company safety and security policy and procedures.
  • Report on any incidents/accidents.
  • Attend any safety and security training offered by the company to maintain safety for employees and visitors.
  • Provide monthly updates to your Reporting Manager for all outstanding CASS Billing discrepancies. (KPI)
  • Develop and provide for consistent administration of rate application, service procedures, computer entries, expenses, training and personnel matters.

Finance Reporting:
  • Responsible for setting and achieving budgets in all areas of import, export, breakbulk, courier, ocean operations.
  • Responsible for growing profitable business in defined areas in order to meet revenue and profit goals.
  • Responsible for “Cost Control” and “Wages Control/Overtime/Casuals”.
  • On a weekly basis, monitor and ensure that all jobs are invoiced and costed accurately within 24 hours. (KPI)
  
Sales:
  • Conduct regular Customer Sales visits to improve business relations (target 4/week). (KPI)
  • Provide regular guidance to Sales in developing and increasing business.
  • Prepare and present company proposals face-to-face and written to a high professional standard.
  • Maintain awareness of competitive activity and opportunities. Keep informed of new services and other general information of interest to employees and customers.
  
General:
  • Knowledgeable in company policies, pricing, sales, and administration procedures and all value-added services such as computer applications, management reports, overseas agent and office network.
  • Monitor all warehouse operations to ensure timely flow of all inbound and outbound cargo.
  • Provide ‘hands-on’ assistance and support to the Import, Export and Warehouse Team in their daily activities as required.
  • Timely and professional response to all Claims using the Claims Policy and Procedures. Advise your Reporting Manager immediately as to any significant claims issues. (KPI)
  • Ensure Weekly bond checks are being completed and acted on immediately. (KPI)
  • All freight to be collected from CTOs within the free storage period, to make certain that no demurrage charges are levied on the company. (KPI)
  • Delegate effectively to ensure consistent work output is achieved from all employees.
  • Fortnightly review of CASS Billings Discrepancy Report and ensure corrective action is taken immediately. (KPI)
  • Provide monthly updates to your Reporting Manager for all outstanding CASS Billling discrepancies. (KPI)
  • Develop and provide for consistent administration of rate application, service procedures, computer entries, expenses, training and personnel matters.
  
Human Resources and Professional Development:
  • Maintain and ensure your team’s performance related reviews are conducted at the scheduled review times or as required. (KPI)
  • Attend to employee behavioral matters, and seek assistance from HR Manager and VP – Asia Pacific
  • In conjunction with the HR Manager, responsible for employment issues, interviewing, hiring, termination and training of new personnel.
  • Coordinate with the HR Manager any relevant training for new and existing employees.
  • Attend training courses offered by the company to up skill professional and industry knowledge.
  • Conduct employee training in all company and operational procedures.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and capability to undertake further studies in the areas of Personnel Management, Financial reporting etc. and transferring new knowledge and skills back to the Branch team.
  • Ensure the successful completion of individual training and development activities are completed in a timely manner (Leadership, Financial courses) as well as participating in on the job training through the support of the management team in AMI.

Company Policy, Procedures and Industry Regulations:
  • Timely and professional response to all Claims using the Claims Policy and Procedures.
  • Advise your Reporting Manager immediately as to any significant claims issues. (KPI)
  • Follow and adhere to all Security, Customs and Quarantine criteria.
  • Follow and adhere to company and operational policy and procedures.
  
Communication and Customer Service:
  • Ensure your team action all emails and telephone calls within 2 hours. (KPI)
  • Reinforce understanding and training in conflict resolution techniques with employees to ensure a high standard of customer satisfaction is achieved.
  • Ensure customer complaints are dealt with in an effective and positive manner to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
  • Regular communication and discussion with your reporting manager, Vice President - South Pacific, regarding any service standards and concerns.
  • Conduct regular meetings with team to ensure improved communications between individuals and departments.
  
Qualifications and Experience
Essentials:
  • Tertiary Business qualification or equivalent.
  • Current Car License
  • Clean Police Background and Security Check
  
Desirables:
  • Current Forklift License
  • Current DG Acceptance, Security, QAP Qualifications
  
Interpersonal Skills
  • You must exhibit proven leadership ability in order to create positive motivation in individuals and groups.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in freight forwarding is required.
  • Proven experience in people management across multiple teams, including performance and development required.
  • Significant hands-on operational experience essential with sound knowledge in aircraft and equipment specifications.
  • Possess professional skill and confidence in presenting information to individuals and groups in regards to customers, as well as employees.
  • Possess a friendly and confident manner with a pleasant personality.
  • Good personal presentation and professional manner at all times.
  • Sound knowledge of Customs and AQIS regulations and requirements.
  • Ability to write effectively and to extract information from written materials.
  • Ability to develop action plans for people to achieve specific goals.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge in computing packages: Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Ability to provide support and motivation to employees.
  • Show empathy to employee’s problems and suggestions and provide alternative options to solutions.
  • Display a high level of customer service and maturity when dealing with customers, peers and managers.

Special Job Requirements
  • It is expected that much time and dedication will be required to successfully fulfill this position, so there should be an expectation that overtime and weekend work will regularly occur.
  • There may be a requirement to travel interstate or overseas to fulfill the requirements of this position.
