Building and Development Officer (multiple vacancies)

The Opportunity

Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a permanent Building Development Officer (this is sometimes called a building certifier at other councils).

Lithgow is a central location for a regional lifestyle and great outdoor recreational activities, and is also only a few hours drive from Sydney. Lithgow lies adjacent to the new Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area and Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, while being less than 30 minutes drive to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains, and 45 minutes drive to Bathurst.

In the role of Building Development Officer you will be directly involved in the assessment and determination of Building and Development matters handled by the development team. You will be carrying out all duties associated with appointment as a principal Certifier.

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Participate in the functions of the Environmental and Planning Services Approvals Team under the Supervision of the Team Leader Building.
  • Ensure that development applications, combined development applications, construction certificates and other applications for approval for the designated area are assessed expeditiously in accordance with the relevant acts and legislation.
  • Ensure that prompt and courteous attention is given to clients with respect to Building and Development issues
  • Negotiate and liaise with Developers and staff as required by the position
  • Undertake any special projects or duties as required by the Team Leader Building or Development Manager
  • Provide accurate, timely and professional advice to the Team Leader Building and Development Manager

About you

The successful candidates will meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying
  • Demonstrated experience in Local Government Building Control
  • A working knowledge of all relevant statutes
  • High degree of communication and writing skills
  • Class C Drivers Licence
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills
  • Accreditation from Building Professionals Board
  • Commitment to Work Health and Safety
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principals of honesty and integrity

In addition, an ideal candidate would have a willingness to learn and further develop professional skills and hold A1 – A2 Accreditation from the Building Professionals Board.

  • Between $86,086.00 - $95,669.60 per annum, commensurate with your skills, qualifications and experience. Additional remuneration may be available for an exceptional candidate.
