About the role
Our Mitcham head office is ready to welcome its next Building Consultant to the team. If you have a keen eye for quality workmanship, enjoy finding the source of an issue, and have the desire to help those in need of technical knowledge, then this is the role for you!
This specialised role empowers the right individual to employ high level communication skills and industry knowledge to identify defects and incomplete works, evaluate compliance, assign liability, provide recommendations and costings; provide ongoing advocacy for specified clients; and expert witness testimony in VCAT or the courts, as required.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Conduct forensic inspections of properties and buildings to identify defects, evaluate compliance, and identify liabilities in relevance to the project.
- Prepare detailed building reports for defective or incomplete work, make good reports, stage inspection reports, dilapidation reports, condition reports, and other reports as required.
- Provide ongoing advocacy for specified clients.
- For existing projects, assist in the preparation of further engagement requirements.
- Provide expert witness testimony in VCAT or the courts, as required.
- Develop and maintain a good knowledge of appropriate Government legislation, standards, and codes relating to building, construction processes, technologies, and associated building materials.
- Attend and participate in regular production meetings and training.
- Attend occasional industry related functions.

You are a people person – with a genuine passion to assist in identifying and resolving technical site issues. Your experience in construction will be pivotal and will provide a great platform to expand your expertise within our wider team.
The must-have’s:
- Experience in commercial and domestic building practices, understanding building regulations, codes, and standards, and being able to demonstrate the ability to interpret technical building matters.
- Extensive technical building experience that you have gained through a trade or site experience.
- Demonstrate and interpret extensive technical building details.
- You are currently a registered building practitioner, such as an engineer, building inspector, building surveyor, quantity surveyor, or builder (commercial or domestic).
- A methodical and efficient approach to managing your time.
- Be well-presented, energetic, polite, and have a friendly attitude.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to produce reports using Word and Excel.
- Possess an above-competent level of computer skills and be familiar with the Microsoft suite of products.
- Full driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
Other desirables:
- You may be tertiary qualified.
- Possess project management experience in a commercial or domestic environment.
