Our organisational strategy is made up of three priorities and we consider these in everything we do: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Customer Experience and Results Matter.We want everyone to be as proud of what we are achieving - and excited about our future - as we are, and we are committed to working together to achieve this.About the Role:Bayside City Council is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our Building Surveying team as a Building Surveying Assistant.The Building Surveying Assistant, under the direction of the Senior Building Surveyor and Municipal Building Surveyor will provide courteous, timely and accurate Building Surveying advice & service to the Bayside community and will assist in the general administration of the Building Act, Building Regulations, Codes and Standards on behalf of Council. Whilst you will primarily work on Report and Consent applications, you will also assist with the daily regulatory functions of the Building Surveying Department.Key Selection Criteria:To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:
- Tertiary building qualifications, with a minimum of Advanced Diploma in Building Surveying or equivalent.
- Preferably a minimum of two (2) years previous Building Surveying experience in a Municipal Building Surveying office and / or private Building Surveying office.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the provisions of the Building Act, Building Regulations and associated Codes and Standards, including building policy and principles.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively project manage the processing of report and consent applications and other building technical requests under the supervision of the Municipal Building Surveyor and / or supervising Building Surveyor.
- Experience with Building Permit applications would be an advantage
- Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of service to customers.
- Demonstrated ability to use electronic development approval systems, word processing, spreadsheets, as well as process administration and records management tools.
- High level oral and written English communication skills including proficiency at letter writing, assessment and recommendation reports, evidence and practice notes, and plan reading skills.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to continuous improvement and positive changes to team performance and culture, processes and systems.
- A current Victorian Driver's Licence.
- Australian citizen or to provide evidence that you have permanent visa status
- Be willing to undergo and complete a satisfactory criminal history check.
- Provide or obtain an employment-based Working with Children check.
