We are seeking a dynamic Business Analyst to join our newly established Infrastructure Operations team. This role is pivotal in providing high-level business support and will be instrumental in backing the infrastructure team’s strategic initiatives!
About the role
The Business Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting the Head of Infrastructure Operations by providing top-tier business analysis services within the infrastructure division. This position is not just about data; it’s about painting the big picture and ensuring that every piece of analysis translates into value.
Key accountabilities include:
- Strategic Support: Working closely with stakeholders to articulate problem statements, define business requirements, and explore solution options that align with business objectives.
- Facilitation Workshops and Meeting Management: Leading and running workshops, effectively presenting to, and engaging with stakeholders, and ensuring outcomes and actions are well-documented and tracked.
- Data Analysis: Analyse infrastructure operation data and stakeholder feedback to spot trends and improvement areas.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Working with stakeholders to understand their needs, translating them into actionable requirements for projects.
- Process Improvement: Collaborating with technical teams to find process enhancements and operational strategies for better efficiency.
- Risk and Benefit Assessment: Evaluate the implications of current and proposed solutions, considering risks, benefits, and business impacts.
- Solution Monitoring: Oversee the success of solutions, seeking feedback, and making iterative improvements.
- Change Support: Aid in business transition and champion change initiatives.

- Outstanding communication skills capable of articulating complex concepts concisely, fostering effective collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Exceptional ability in gathering and interpreting information, with a proven track record of developing compelling business cases that drive organisational change.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting techniques, with the ability to integrate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Strong facilitating abilities, skilled in leading sessions that promote collaboration, utilising a variety of facilitation tools and technologies to maximise participant engagement.
- A solid understanding of infrastructure operations within the transportation sector or similar industries, enabling practical approach to business analysis.
- An analytical mindset, with a keen ability to critically evaluate data, discern patterns, and derive insights that inform strategic decision-making.
- A critical thinker and a problem solver, employing a range of creative approaches to tackle complex challenges and deliver solutions.
- Demonstrated alignment to V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership, and human rights.
Desirable
- Tertiary qualification in business, engineering, information technology or a relevant discipline
- Advanced Microsoft Office suite of applications – Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBI, SharePoint, PowerApps
- An understanding of business analysis concepts & techniques outlined in Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK).
- Experience in an Asset Management, Asset Information Systems position, or industry.

The salary range for this role starts at $120,000 inclusive of superannuation. We are open to discussing salary expectations in accordance with the necessary skills, experience, and overall fit for the role.
