The Business:

Howard Porter/Steelbro is a leading manufacturer of road transport equipment and has been since 1936. Howard Porter/Steelbro supply a large range of transportation products including the innovative Steelbro side lifter to a wide range of customers and in industries such as mining, farming and general haulage and transport. 

The Role:

Due to a sustained market interest upheld by a history of supplying quality products and, with a strategic growth plan now in place, the Company is seeking an experienced sales Business Development Manager to join our WA sales team. 

This role is effective immediately with successful applicant being based at Howard Porter head office based in Spearwood WA. This is a strategic BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT and sales role for an experienced executive with a key focus on developing new business whilst maintaining strong existing customer and partner relationships.

Reporting to the MD your responsibilities will extend to all aspects of sales and BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT including but not limited to lead generation, business plan development, customer engagement at all levels, presentation of the Company’s products (CAPITAL EQUIPMENT) and securing new orders. 

Key tasks may include:

  • A passion for sales and marketing to ensure sales targets and quotas are achieved,
  • Develop and execute strategies for targeted accounts as well as mining and developing new accounts.
  • Establish, build and manage multi-level relationships within customer and partner organizations, 
  • Develop strategic product solutions for identified customer needs, 
  • Ensure a comprehensive understanding of both the customer businesses and that of its market competitors to ensure that effective strategic solutions are provided,
  • Set target and planning objectives and review them with the MD or Sales Manager,
  • Ensure effective and accurate customer records, account plans, business forecasts and revenue reports are produced in a timely manner,
  • Identify and secure opportunities to expand product usage and formulate  plans and strategies for selling into territory and existing account base to accelerate business volumes, 
  • Develop an understanding and influence the customers decision making process and lead the customer to positive decisions on product proposals and manage all customer engagements to a successful conclusion.

A profile of the successful candidate may feature:

  • Min 5 years experience in CAPITAL EQUIPMENT/TRUCK TRAILERS i.e road transport industry will be highly regarded, 
  • A positive and well guarded “can do” attitude,
  • Demonstrate competence in networking, target marketing to specific prospects and have advanced selling skills
  • Ability to canvass and deliver effective presentations to provide a better understanding to customers on the products capabilities, quality and its cost-effectiveness
  • Self motivated to work independently and with team support, to close business
  • Ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels, 
  • Commercial astuteness with proven ability to create strategic relationships and plans which satisfy customers' needs and business
