Job description

The Business Officer delivers a range of business and/or project activities, contributing to high level executive support services for the Chief Information Officer.

Within this context, the Business Officer:

  • Provides executive support to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and administrative support, reporting to the Senior Manager in the Office of the CIO (OCIO) team in the Health ICT branch. This can include coordinating travel, accommodation and meetings, electronic diary management, scheduling appointments, organising meeting requirements, collation of papers, and preparation and handling confidential, politically sensitive and complex documentation and enquiries for the CIO.
  • Provides business support and advice associated with the business and administrative functions of Health ICT, covering a broad range of areas including contract management, finance, purchasing/procurement, Information Technology, human resources and recruitment, asset management, work health and safety, meeting and project support that contribute to branch activities.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective workflow and sharing of information across the Agency, Office of the Secretary and the Minister’s Office. Support OCIO as the central Health ICT branch coordination point for incoming and outgoing high-level communications and documentation via electronic document tracking systems.

The Role:

  1. Provide business advice, services and support that meet customer requirements and improve the customer experience. Activities may encompass project management activities; performing information management or service management tasks; logging issues; actioning financial, procurement and human resources requirements; facilitating professional learning and other events; supporting the implementation of change initiatives; assisting customers with enquiries; and/or business as usual (BAU).
  2. Implement operational service delivery, process improvements and business solutions including the preparation and maintenance of supporting documentation. Facilitate others to better understand and utilise branch processes and procedures, including delivering training as required. Deliver support and services in accordance with service level agreements, standards, or business requirements.
  3. Work with one or more teams to support the delivery of project outcomes or BAU. Contribute to preparation, update and distribution of documentation including plans, reports, correspondence, meeting agendas and minutes, financial, procurement and human resources reports.
  4. Contribute to a culture of high performance and teamwork within the business unit and wider branch by adopting a collaborative, consultative and cooperative approach. Fostering productive partnerships with colleagues, customers and stakeholders supports the achievement of positive results.
  5. Support the Department’s values by exhibiting and encouraging positive and respectful workplace behaviours, embracing diversity, integrity, and accountability for actions taken within the team, and by supporting others during times of change.

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) Team:

  • The Office of the Chief Information Officer team sits within Health Information and Communications Technology (Health ICT), a significant corporate division of the Department of Health. OCIO provides high level executive services to senior leadership, with priority focus on supporting the Chief Information Officer as head of Health ICT.
  • Health ICT provides strategic leadership for effective planning, procurement and management of information systems and information and communication technologies. This large branch provides front-line support to clinical services enables the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality integrated patient and client care.
  • Health ICT is also responsible for program and project management, information security advice, ICT vendor and contract management. It provides high-level advice on digital health strategy, investment and delivery as well as the implementation of systems and technologies for effective information management and governance.

Position Features

  • From time to time the role may require the occupant to perform some duties outside of normal working hours.
  • Travel between sites may be required.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term full time day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2024.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary: $79,529 - $91,517 per annum. Our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
