The opportunity
Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are looking for a Production & Engineering Manager to join the C-17 team based at RAAF Base Amberley. They will support RAAF's 36SQN who operate 8 C-17A Globemasters. As the primary heavy lift capability for the ADF they are called upon 24/7, 365 days a year for operations both domestically and abroad. Boeing Defence Australia supports 36SQN in its mission across a multitude of disciplines and is relied upon to deliver outstanding sustainment support across three separate contracts.
There are two elements to the Production & Engineering Manager role;
C-17 Engineering Manager (G3 and ASSC) -As an Engineering Manager within Sustainment Operations business you will have capability leadership responsibilities to oversee and manage engineering and technical sustainment services for the C-17A platform, spanning both the ASSC and The Boeing Company G3 contracts. As a Multi-skilled Engineering Manager, you will work closely with both the ASSC and G3 Program/Project Managers to ensure the delivery of engineering sustainment services for the C-17A capability. This will include the development and retention of the required C-17A technical and design services workforce to meet the requirements of both C-17A support contracts; and internally funded activities required to grow BDA Sustainment Operations business.
C-17 (ASSC) Production Manager -As the Australian Sustainment Services Contact (ASSC) Production Manager you will have program leadership oversight responsibilities for the Engineering and Supply Support (Logistics) teams. The Production Manager is a Key Position of the Contract as the CAM (Cost Account Manager) and is a committed member of the ASSC core Leadership Team. The Production Manager is accountable to the ASSC Program Manager for delivery of the services listed under the contractual Statement of Work (SoW). You will be supported by both the Chief Engineer and Supply Support Lead in the execution of the deliverables.
In this role you will:
- Be working with the Project Managers and Chief Engineer to provide collaborative oversight to ensure the engineering and technical support scope is delivered within the schedule and budget constraints of the Enterprise, with interdependency on quality outcomes.
- Provide Cost Account Management (CAM) services as delegated by the PMs.
- Acting as a customer interface to ensure that contract deliverables are adequately understood and communicated.
- Ensuring effective deployment of engineering activities and resources.
- Liaising with BDA Engineering skill-stream leaders to ensure the engineering skills needed for the Programs are being provided; and to maintain and grow the knowledge, skills and experience of the C-17A Engineering team.
- Tracking performance metrics and identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
To be considered for the role you will have:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working within a sustainment related organisation within a technical industry.
- Demonstrable understanding of core sustainment principles eg. change management, baseline management, cost, schedule and asset management.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to engage, influence and cooperate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field
Preferred but not essential:
- Qualifications in Business or Engineering Management
- Leadership experience in a technical field.
- Experience with technical management of aerospace and / or Defence projects.
- Experience in an ASDEFCON contract environment.
- Experience working under the Defence Aviation Safety Requirements (DASRs) framework
