Location Profile

Hazel Glen College is located in the City of Whittlesea, one of Melbourne’s fastest growing municipalities.  The local population has grown rapidly and continues to grow.  Hazel Glen College has an active and integral role in the ongoing development of the Doreen community hub.

The College commenced at the beginning of the 2014 school year with 143 students.  Growth of the College has been rapid, with the College growing to over 3000 students and over 300 staff, in the last few years.  The College structures are based on educational research of the stages of learning.  This comprises a Kindergarten, Junior School P-4, Middle School 5-8, Year 9 Centre and Senior School 10-12, with our first year 12 graduates in 2020.

A Child Family Centre, comprising, kindergarten, extended day care, playgroups, intervention services, maternal health centre and various other community service groups, co-located on the school site, creates an exciting and innovative early childhood education precinct.

The College motto, Learners today - Leaders tomorrow, leads the direction for our students. It is the expectation of all staff across the College to guide students and develop skills, attitudes and values required to fully participate in the rich educational journey at the College and life in the 21st century.

Selection Criteria

SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, food preparation and health standards in a School Canteen.

SC2 A demonstrated ability to competently use and maintain relevant work spaces and equipment.

SC3 Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, parents and visitors in line with the Child Safe Standards and College Code of Conduct.

SC4 Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member, and to carry out given responsibilities.

SC5 Must hold a Food Handlers Certificate

Role

The Education Support – Canteen Assistant fulfills an important role with the responsibility for assisting in the canteen. It is expected that they will provide a high level of customer service to the student body, staff, parents and visitors to the College and be competent in the provision of up to date and relevant information.

The position is required to work cooperatively with both internal and external clients and involves regular close interaction with students and parents. It will also include interaction with staff including co-ordinators, other schools, teachers, Business Manager, Principal, the leadership team and College Council.

It is important the Education Support – Canteen Assistant operates in a consistent, professional, courteous and efficient manner at all times. Consistency is vital in all aspects of this role as the dissemination of consistent, accurate information is essential.

Responsibilities


It is the responsibility of the Canteen Assistant to:

  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of the school canteen, under the guidance of the Canteen Manager, College Council, Principal, and Business Manager, using established routines, methods and procedures.
  • The Canteen Assistant must ensure that safe and appropriate practices are followed in relation to hygiene, health laws and regulations.
  • The Canteen will operate each day that students are at school, or as agreed with College Council.
  • The Canteen Assistant must show a commitment to the success and well being of Hazel Glen College, its students, staff and the community.
  • To assist with ensuring occupational health and safety regulations are met.
  • To complete training in food handling and safety and any other relevant professional development training.
  • Complete Performance and Development reviews, including receiving and giving feedback to and from peers re. improvement strategies.
  • Other duties as directed by the College Principal.
