The Role

Reporting to the Area Manager of Waterway and Catchment Services this role will maintain our customer’s confidence and trust as the region’s waterway manager, provider of valued drainage and land services and streamflow diversion manager. This role will support the planning and initiation of capital works that contribute to the successful implementation of the Healthy Waterways Strategy (2018) and the Flood Management Strategy.

The successful implementation of these strategies will be achieved through and require:

· Knowledge of natural resource management, waterway rehabilitation and drainage

· Appreciation of customer requirements

· Good understand and knowledge of GIS (ESRI) and project/asset management systems (Project Online, Maximo)

· Ability to initiate of capital projects that contribute to the achievement of waterway, flood, drainage and land objectives and targets

· Safety mindset, which includes taking care of own and colleagues’ health, safety and wellbeing through identification and reporting of hazards and active involvement in improvement initiatives.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Experience in waterway, drainage and land asset management, natural resource management, waterway planning and rehabilitation practices, and with statutory planning processes (strongly preferred)
  • Analytical and problem solving skills related to program management and project development with a particular emphasis on attention to detail
  • Strong systems knowledge and experience essential, ideally in Project Online, Maximo and/or ESRI (GIS)
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water and external organisations
  • Demonstrated ability to work and contribute in a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously
  • Demonstrated project and contract management skills and the ability to supervise consultants (preferred)
  • A proactive, solutions-focused, continuous improvement mindset and demonstrated resilience.
