About the Role:
The primary purpose of this role is to deliver training and advice to empower Murraylands and Riverland farmers and land managers, to integrate low emission technologies and practices into their farming operations and land management practices and where appropriate participate in carbon markets.
This will require delivering a Carbon Farming training package that provides clear, consistent and culturally appropriate information on carbon farming and low-emissions technologies and practices that are relevant to Murraylands and Riverland and working with land managers to assist them with adopting low emissions strategies and practices that are appropriate for their properties and circumstances.
Key Outcomes
- Increased knowledge of greenhouse gas emissions management, carbon farming, and low-emissions technologies and practices among Murraylands and Riverland land managers.
- Increased uptake and application of greenhouse gas emissions management, carbon farming, and low-emissions technologies and practices among Murraylands and Riverland land managers.
- Individuals and the community have increased capacity to engage and understand carbon farming opportunities through the development of knowledge, strategic connections and collaborations.
- Review, update and adaptation of a Carbon Farming training package to ensure it provides clear, consistent and culturally appropriate information on carbon farming and low-emissions technologies and practices that are relevant to the Murraylands and Riverland.
- Delivery of the Carbon Farming training package to Murraylands and Riverland land managers through a series of community workshops.
- Delivery of one-on-one extension to training participants to facilitate the uptake and application of greenhouse gas emissions management, carbon farming, and low-emissions technologies and practices among Murraylands and Riverland land managers.
The Murraylands & Riverland region covers approximately 53,780 square kilometres from the Victorian and New South Wales borders to the western Mallee at the foot of the Eastern Mount Lofty Ranges.
The region forms the south-western portion of the Murray-Darling catchment into which the River Murray flows. The River Murray supplies the majority of the water needs for the city of Adelaide and surrounding towns. Much of the land is used for primary production, including pastoral lands, dryland cropping, grazing, horticulture, irrigation and dairy farming. There are also ecosystems that are of state, national and international significance, including the Ramsar-listed Chowilla Floodplain, the Coorong and Lower Lakes. The natural resources of the region also support tourism, recreation and manufacturing.
The Traditional Owner groups include Ngarrindjeri, the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region, Peramangk, Ngadjuri, and Wilyakali.

Contract for up to Two Years
Special Conditions:
- The position will be located regionally in Murray Bridge or Berri.
- A current ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence is essential
- Some out of hours work, inter or intrastate travel involving overnight absences from home or out of normal office hours may be required as part of the position.
- All staff are encouraged to wear appropriate uniform in any public setting to represent the region is a professional manner.
- This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. By applying for this role you consent to being screened under the process of obtaining a National Police Clearance (NPC), and to the region requiring you to obtain a National Police Clearance (NPC).
- The incumbent must be willing to undertake and satisfactorily complete within a reasonable period of commencing in the role – accredited training that relates to the role.
- Will have the opportunity to participate in fire management and associated duties.
CLASSIFICATION $84,522 min - $94,003 max p.a., pro rata for part time hours.
