Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The KLC currently provides carbon services to six Carbon Projects. All revenue from these projects goes back to the indigenous proponents, is re-invested and contributes directly to the regional economy, Aboriginal employment, PBC governance and capacity development, as well as ongoing and improved fire management for the savanna burning projects and the co-benefits they generate.
The KLC is looking to expand on the success of its Carbon Program to facilitate more effective collaborations across the Kimberley, maximise the value that traditional owners get from commercial partnerships and enhance the financial sustainability of the KLC and other Aboriginal organisations in the Kimberley.
• You will facilitate regional collaborations, ensuring these collaborations deliver cultural, environmental and economic benefits from Indigenous enterprise to traditional owners
• You will work closely with Aboriginal corporations and the Carbon Program Manager to:
o facilitate meetings and circular resolutions
o build capabilities related to project management of Carbon Projects
o ensure contractual requirements relating to project ANREU accounts are met
o support with the development of opportunities for sales of carbon credits and long-term partnerships which recognise the cultural, environmental and commercial benefits of Indigenous land management in the Kimberley.
• You will attend Carbon and Fire management meetings in person across the Kimberley
• You will work with the Carbon Program Manager to transition new projects from registration to the project delivery phase
This will be a diverse role, spanning capacity building, stakeholder / partnership and contract management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following accountabilities will be allocated amongst the team in line with candidate experience and preference where possible.
• Contributing to the strategic direction of the KLC’s Carbon program and ensuring it is aligned to KLC’s, our members’ and our partners’ objectives, thereby ensuring its sustainability
Building the capabilities of Kimberley Aboriginal Corporations in Carbon Project management and enterprise through transfer of best practice and sharing of knowledge
• Delivering Carbon Project sales support by facilitating meetings, negotiations and agreements as directed by the Carbon Program Manager and Indigenous Carbon Project proponents.
• Manage compliance with sales and partnership agreements
• Develop briefing papers and report on key partnerships to PBCs
• Supporting management of consultants and contractors
• In line with PBC/AC requests, developing and establishing regional collaborations by liaising with stakeholders to motivate cooperation and collaboration.
Facilitating regional collaboration meetings and workshops for Indigenous Carbon Project proponents.
• Supporting industry development for the benefit of indigenous people, including through collaboration with other indigenous organisations and active participation in regional / industry bodies like ICIN & CMI.
• Establishing strong internal working relationships, enabling effective leveraging of KLC’s resources and internal support (e.g. Native Title Services and Legal).

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:ESSENTIAL1. Commercial acumen and awareness of commercial implications related to indigenous cultural and intellectual property
2. Proven effectiveness at stakeholder engagement and management, ideally in an Indigenous context and related to the carbon industry
3. Excellent communication, liaison, negotiation and facilitation skills and a capacity to effectively establish and maintain internal and external networks, particularly in an Indigenous context
4. Project management skills and an ability to set direction to achieve deliverables
5. Commitment to the empowerment of Indigenous peoples and an ability to foster good working relationships with Kimberley Aboriginal people
6. Ability to take ownership and show initiative, leveraging a solid judgment on priorities and issues as they arise
7. Attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement
8. Tertiary degree in a related field or three years’ experience in a related role
9. Current valid driver’s licence and a Working with Children’s Check (WCC)DESIRABLE1. An understanding of indigenous enterprises including Indigenous Carbon Projects
2. Working knowledge of financial / budget management
3. Conflict resolution skills and the ability to manage complex issues effectively
4. Experience with successful project management of Indigenous owned projects
5. Capacity to deliver training and knowledge transfer
