About the Service: Family Support Network

Centrecare, in partnership with Wungening Aboriginal Corporation and Lamp, Inc provide Stronger Together, Intensive Family Support Services. Stronger together is a targeted early intervention service which has the overarching outcome of children living in safe, stable, and nurturing environments, supporting them to achieve good life outcomes and supporting families to keep children safely at home.

This service provides intensive, in-home support to families who are most at risk of child protection intervention or families who require support to reunify children back to their care. Stronger Together works holistically with families and the Department of Communities – Child Protection and Family Support, to reduce child protection concerns in the family home utilising a culturally appropriate, strength-based approach.

About the role

Provide assessment, case planning and support for families with medium to low risk factors and/or complexity to families who are most at risk of child protection intervention. Priority access will be given to Aboriginal families.

  • Implement a case management approach to service delivery including strengths-based needs assessment and informal counselling to family members including extended family members.
  • Assist at-risk families to gain access to mainstream and specialist services as required and requested.
  • Respond to and provide crisis intervention supports to families and children as required
  • Assist, foster, and provide direct services to families to:
    • develop strategies to facilitate a safe home environment for children and young people
    • support safe and positive contact between parents and children and young people.
    • develop a positive attachment to their identified community.
    • increase positive life skills.
    • develop strategies to enhance their self-esteem.
    • provide practical assistance to families where appropriate in maintaining their accommodation and links to mainstream, CaLD and Aboriginal specific services.
    • Liaise, mediate, and advocate on behalf of the families, children, and young people with other service providers
  • Help increase skills development and education programs made available to families, children, and young people in the target area
  • Maintain a partnership approach to work effectively with families, children, and young people.

About you

  • Recognised qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work and/or related disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with other organisations to achieve positive community outcomes
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history
  • Understanding and knowledge of working with families and children including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, regulations and external standards that apply to relevant work practices
  • Displays an ability to stay calm in stressful situations
  • Highly proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Solution focused approach to problem solving
  • Ability to be work within a multiagency, multidisciplinary team
  • High attention to detail
