Indigo Junction is a values driven not for profit organisation providing support to youth, families and individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This role is focused on assisting those Living Independently for the first time.
The key objectives of this position are:
• To assist young people leaving the care of the Department for Child Protection and Family Support (CPFS) using an intensive case management approach.
• To support young people who have experienced trauma to heal through the delivery of recognised trauma-informed, therapeutic responses.
• To ensure clients are safe, supported and increase their knowledge and confidence to reduce the likelihood of future crises.
• To support young people towards more independent living by empowering them with life-skills using strategies such as role-modelling and hurdle help.
• To ensure client outcomes are optimised through participation in coordinated interagency responses.
• To foster a positive working relationship with CPFS Midland and Housing Authority Midland (members of the LIFT project working party).
The key duties and responsibilities of this position are:
Client Services
• Work within IJ’s Trauma Informed Care framework (training and education provided for new staff).
• Provide one-on-one casework services to assist clients with complex needs in accordance with contract requirements.
• Support “warm referral” of clients to other services.
• Facilitate case coordination with a range of stakeholders relevant to the position and the needs of young people connected to the program.
• Provide in-home support for clients to undertake supported and/ or independent responsibilities including tasks such as shopping, cleaning, cooking, and bills/ paperwork.
• Provide outreach and support young people to connect to various activities or appointments that are important to their development.
• Provide support to young people in attending to their hygiene, health and nutrition.
• Support young people to develop links to education, training, day programs or employment.
Community Liaison
• Establish good working relationships with CPFS Midland and Housing Authority Midland.
• Establish and expand networks within the local community services.
• Develop and maintain contact with related services throughout the metropolitan area and participate in networking opportunities.
Selection Criteria:
• Degree in social work, psychology, social science or similar.
• 3 years demonstrated experience working with young people with complex needs.
• Current 6 month National Police Clearance
• Working With Children's Check.
• Current ‘C’ class driver’s license.
• First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
• Experience working alongside WAPOL & Youth Justice Teams.
• Sound understanding of the principles of Trauma Informed Care.
• Experience and demonstrated competence in working with people in crisis.
• Understanding of the cultural and social factors of homelessness and other crisis.
• Experience in a case management approach with an understanding of professional boundaries in
relation to client work.
• Knowledge of community and government resources.
