Opportunity for an experienced Caseworker to support individuals and families experiencing homelessness that are in crisis. Central Coast location.
About the roleThe Supported Temporary Accommodation program is a fast-paced environment that requires a skilled Caseworker that can support individuals and families experiencing homelessness that are in crisis. Case Workers need to have high levels compassion, empathy, patience, and tolerance. A humanistic approach and a fun personality are a must, but you also need to be able to think fast, deliver practical and emotional support and be solution focused.
The main objective of the role is to provide case management intervention for clients experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness for your allocated area on the Central Coast. The role will include addressing homelessness concerns through building client capabilities, increasing safety and promoting change through an empowerment client centered model.
It is a very hands-on job, that at times can be challenging but massively rewarding. We want clients to feel safe and supportive, but to also have a positive experience with our service and organisation.
This is a full-time position based in Tuggerah and we support flexible working arrangements that meets the needs of the program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sound knowledge of casework and case management principles.
- Good working knowledge of accessing homelessness supports and accommodation.
- Assist and advocate for clients in meeting practical needs such as housing, budgeting, job attainment, access to Centrelink, Medicare, etc.
- Ensure appropriate referrals are made to address risk factors such as mental health, drugs and alcohol and other contributors which impact sustainability of housing needs, and work alongside those services to provide appropriate intervention.
- Participate in regular mandatory reporting on client progress.
- Diploma qualifications in Community Services or equivalent.
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in Casework or Case Management.
- Ability to demonstrate networking and advocacy skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to provide strong and respectful advocacy in situations of high pressure and competing agendas.
- Ability to manage a crisis or safety situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
- A Working with Children Check and Criminal History Check.
- A NSW Driver's Licence and insured vehicle.
