ABOUT THE ROLE
Ngala is currently recruiting for Casual Child Health Nurses to work across Early Intervention Services including Ngala’s Residential Parenting Services and Parenting Line.
Ngala’s Residential Parenting services operates 4/5 days over a 24hr period.
Parenting Line operates 7 days a week 8am to 8pm including Public Holidays.
Work hours and days will vary depending in the service and position may include shift work over a 24-hour period.
DUTIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Work alongside parents to identify their strengths and develop their capacity to understand and care for children
- Use active listening to assist families in identifying desired goals in a respectful manner
- Assess the health needs of children and parents
- Collaborate with parents to develop care plans with small achievable steps to reach their goals
- Link families with appropriate community and Ngala resources
- Provide evidence-based information relating to child development and parent-child relationships
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will hold qualifications in Child Health Nursing and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) together with the following:
- Possession of specialised knowledge of child and family health, particularly in the areas of parenting, child development 0-18years, and perinatal infant mental health.
- Knowledge of contemporary social issues and how they impact on children and families.
- Effective communication skills both written and oral with a strong focus on listening and strength-based approach.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills showing initiative, creativity and flexibility.
- Experience in conflict resolution and negotiation
- Demonstrated experience in working with families, parents and children/adolescents.
- Trauma informed and culturally responsive.
- Computer literacy, report writing and data recording skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Well-developed knowledge base of:
- Child health and development
- Early years and brain development research findings
- Perinatal and infant mental health
- Issues impacting on fathers
- Sleep and nutrition for families, babies and young children
- Responsive settling approach
- Breastfeeding and lactation
