About This Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and motivated Dairy Attendant to assist with the day-to-day operations. Reporting to the Dairy Coordinator you will assist in the day to day running of the dairy on the Gatton campus.
Key responsibilities will include:
Undertake the maintenance of dairy equipment, fences and equipment used in irrigation and production of pastures.
Assist with the feeding of dairy stock.. (Feeding Dairy stock with a telescopic loader and mixer wagon)
Attend to the routine animal husbandry tasks including monitoring the health, hygiene, and welfare of the animals and immediate reporting of cases where veterinary attention is required.
Provide teaching and research support to academic staff and students undertaking practical experience programs.
Provide logistical and technical support for research projects and assist in the setting up and monitoring of experiments.
Assist with milking and artificially inseminating cows.
Maintain farm records on a regular basis.
This is a casual position at HEW level 3, with an hourly rate in the range of $42.09 to $46.33, plus superannuation of 11%. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.
About YouCompletion of a trades certificate or Certificate III in a relevant discipline, or completion of Year 12 or a Certificate II with relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Certificate of competency in artificial insemination or ability to be obtain within three (3) months of appointment.
Certificate of competency in the operation of a front-end loader or ability to obtain within three (3) months of appointment.
Heavy Rigid license or willingness to obtain within three months, would be highly regarded
Current driver’s license
Possession of or the ability to obtain a Blue Card and ChemCert accreditation in Agriculture and Veterinary Chemicals, a Commercial Operators license issued under the ACDC Act.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise with a variety of university staff, students and clients of the Dairy Unit.
Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft suite programs (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Sound knowledge of the operation and maintenance of dairy equipment, fences and related infrastructure necessary for livestock management and fodder production.
Sound knowledge of all aspects of dairy farming including husbandry, breeding, nutrition, health, and behaviour of dairy cattle.
