Job description

We are seeking a Casual Receptionist to work in or front of house and assist with administration duties within an exciting, energetic multi-disciplinary team, that is focused on improving the health and wellbeing of the local Aboriginal community. The role of the Receptionist is to ensure the smooth running of the reception area and the provision of various Administration supports are provided to the program areas and staff within the Organisation during business core hours, which are between the hours of 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Organisational Profile

Gippsland & East Gippsland Aboriginal Co-Operative Ltd (GEGAC) is a community controlled not-for-profit Organisation with proud history that is dated back to 1972.

GEGAC provides a full range of holistic services for Aboriginal people that includes but is not limited to medical, housing, Community wellbeing, family support, education, employment and most importantly a place of cultural connection and representation for all Aboriginal people.

Position Purpose

The casual receptionist position will work in all areas of GEGAC including Administration, Medical, Dental, CYFSU and other areas as required. The role of the casual receptionist is to ensure the smooth running of the reception area and the provision of various administrative supports are provided to the program areas and staff within the organisation during core business hours, which are between the hours of 9.00am to 5.06pm Monday to Friday.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local Community.
  • Confident and experienced in telephone answering and frontline reception.
  • Demonstrated efficient time management skills and the ability to prioritise and take directions from Management.
  • Able to communicate well with internal staff and other external organisations, including the wider Aboriginal communities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as highly developed interpersonal, coaching and consultative skills.
  • Basic computer and general office equipment experience and knowledge.
  • Experience of and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and neutrality at all times.
  • Ability to work independently.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
  • Victorian Driver's License ESSENTIAL
  • A knowledge of Aboriginal culture and prior experience working within an Aboriginal Community DESIRABLE
  • A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with mandatory vaccination directive applying to authorised workers ESSENTIAL
