We are currently searching for an experienced WHS Manager to join the team on a permanent basis.

About the Role

The Central Work Health and Safety (WHS) Manager serves as part of the WHS Team of Bestbar and will report to the National Manager People and Safety. 

This position is ultimately responsible for ensuring the company complies with duties imposed under the WHS Act, Regulations, and Code of Conduct to prevent occupational illness and injury. This role requires interstate travel as required. 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assist with the development and implementation of the WHS strategic and operational plan,
  • Management of both active and future Workers’ Compensation claims,
  • Oversight of claims management, data collection and reporting,
  • Effective distribution of all safety messages throughout the company,
  • Continuous review and improvement of the WHS management system,
  • Implementation and review of policies and procedures to ensure the company is meeting responsibilities in WHS, claims, rehabilitation management and training,
  • Provide advice and assistance to managers to ensure compliance with all relevant WHS statutory requirements,
  • Oversee, review and manage 5S processes,
  • Develop and conduct regular WHS audits to ensure processes, systems and contractors comply with WHS legislation,
  • Assist the National Manager People and Safety with planning, developing and implementation of company-wide WHS initiatives and strategies,
  • Promote a culture of effective WHS operations and lead the company in a coordinated effort to make the company an Employer of Choice,
  • Mentor the WHS team members in their development and capabilities,
  • Gather, maintain and analyse WHS statistical data and report trends and provide recommendations to the National Management Team.

Who we are looking for:

The Central WHS Manager is an integral role driving our safety culture. An ideal role for a current manager within the same or similar industry, or someone that has strong experience with safety activities in a complex operational environment. If you possess the following attributes, this role may be for you!

  • Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety (or its equivalent) and/or related field.
  • Understanding of and experience with the ISO45001 requirements.
  • Updated HLTAID011: Provide First Aid and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).
  • Experience in the development and implementation and continuous improvement of WHS management systems and contributing to a culture of health and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated WHS experience in a high risk and operational environment (steel industry experience is desirable but not essential).
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant Australian WHS legislation and standards.
  • Knowledge of WHS management systems, Risk management and its application to business and culture.
  • Ability to analyse, review and improve operational processes.
  • Experience in the implementation and maintenance of Safety Systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to persuade and guide others in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to plan and organise work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality customer service.
  • Excellent leadership skills to lead a team as well as be a part of the team.
  • Self-reflective and continuous improvement mindset.
