The centre remains the beating heart of the North Melbourne community, where numerous social events are held and vital support can be provided through free and impactful community engagement programs and services.
About the Role
As the Centre Manager of North Melbourne Community Centre, you will provide leadership and vision for the Centre's operations, and play a broader role within the YMCA and City of Melbourne.

You will oversee Customer Care, Health & Wellness, and Operations, being highly visible in the Centre and local community. Forming strong relationships and partnerships, you will ensure services meet community needs.
A key focus will be working with local organisations and stakeholders to enhance community engagement and connection with all of community with a focus on the youth cohort. This involves strategic planning, risk and contract management, and delivering mainstream programs and services. Our place-based approach works directly with neighbourhood stakeholders, building positive relationships and collaborating with the City of Melbourne local needs and opportunities. Additionally, you will provide programs to enhance wellbeing, and connectedness for the local North Melbourne community.
This position is being offered on a full-time basis with a total remuneration package of $104k (incl super).
About You
As Centre Manager, you will be a decisive leader with strong organisational and time management skills. You will:
- Provide leadership and vision for the facility and its staff, representing the YMCA to the local community.
- Bring senior leadership experience and a psycho-social background to support community understanding.
- Engage staff and the community, driving business while maintaining assets.
- Ensure inclusive and welcoming spaces for culturally diverse communities.
- Create environments where everyone feels valued through "welcoming spaces with inclusive principles."
- Demonstrate strong business and financial acumen.
- Foster a culture of safety and manage risk effectively.
- Align with the Y's values.
In this role, you will also:
- Understand community strengths, needs, and priorities.
- Develop systems for cooperation with stakeholders to enable meaningful engagement.
- Promote and implement community development and partnership strategies.
- Utilize interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills to achieve community outcomes.
- Maintain positive relationships with key external stakeholders.
- Plan and implement Centre programs in response to community needs.
- Exhibit excellent communication and negotiation skills for stakeholder collaboration.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience in a similar leadership role within the Sports & Recreation industry will be highly regarded but if you have significant team leadership and budget management experience from a different industry, we would love to hear from you!
- Tertiary qualifications in Sports Management, Business Management, or other related field will be highly regarded
- Previous leadership experience is essential
