About the Parliamentary Workplace Support Service (PWSS)

PWSS provides 24 hour independent and confidential support services, for all Commonwealth parliamentary workplace participants.

In addition, a wide range of human resource services for Parliamentarians and their staff are available including work health and safety services, recruitment support and advice on general employment matters, development and delivery of bespoke training, coaching and education.

Pending the establishment of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Commission, the PWSS also maintains a workplace review function. More information about the PWSS is available at: https://pwss.gov.au/

The PWSS is established as an independent statutory agency. PWSS staff are currently engaged by the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) and seconded to the PWSS, pending a machinery of government change. You can learn more about the APSC by visiting https://www.apsc.gov.au/about-us.

The key duties of the position include
The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) will:

  • Lead a small team to deliver PWSS's financial management, accounting operating and reporting requirements.
  • Lead and advise on PWSS Procurement, risk and audit.
  • Manage relationships with the PWSS Shared Services provider.
  • Provide advice to PWSS leadership on complex financial management issues.
  • Advise the PWSS Executive on financial risk and performance.
  • Prepare financial information including Portfolio Budget Statements and annual financial statements.
  • Work effectively with stakeholders on financial management and audit matters.
  • Manage the PWSS Risk Framework.
  • Manage the PWSS internal budget.
  • Lead a culture of innovation to enhance the PWSS's governance and financial management framework.
  • Provide input to and attend the PWSS Audit and Risk Committee if/as required.
  • Develop financial capability training for PWSS staff.
  • Ensure PWSS compliance with Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) requirements.
