Founded in 1952, the Paspaley Pearls Group owns and operates an assembly of companies. While running Australia's most iconic pearling operations is still the Group's core business, including production, wholesale, and retail, they have expanded their operations to include marine engineering, aviation, agriculture, hospitality and resort accommodation, and property interests.
Paspaley is seeking a strategic Chief Financial Officer to work closely with its Corporate Executive Team and Board. You will have a direct role in shaping the overall direction of the Group, leading the Group's strategic financial direction, and playing a key advisory role on Group wide initiatives for sustainable and profitable growth.
About the role:
As Chief Financial Officer, you are responsible for the Group Finance function, based in Darwin, delivering all aspects of financial accounting, compliance, governance, and risk in a timely manner to aid decision making. In addition, the CFO oversees six "dotted line" reports at the divisional level of each operating division.
This is an exciting growth opportunity for an ambitious and accomplished senior finance professional and requires a depth and breadth of knowledge across all traditional aspects of financial control, compliance, and transactional accounting, as well as strong commercial acumen.
Furthermore, the role is strategically responsible for financial planning and analysis that underpin sound commercial and investment decisions, both directly at the group level and indirectly at the divisional level.
Key responsibilities include:
- The key driver and advisor across Group wide financial initiatives, including the development of a forward-facing advice-led finance team, responsible for the provision of insights and information that contribute to the future success of the Group.
- Direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, financial systems, strategic planning, treasury, risk management, and insurance.
- A focus on continuous improvement of systems and processes to enhance the finance function's output (including implementation of new IT systems).
- Providing value add advice to the Executive team in support of key strategic and operational decisions.
- Managing key external relations to ensure compliance with, and good governance of, corporate and company requirements, including financial statements, audits, ASIC and ATO reporting, and responsiveness.
- Evolve the governance framework to be fit-for-purpose for a business of the size, complexity, and geographic/operational diversity of the Group.
- Assume the Company Secretarial responsibilities for the Group.
The ideal candidate should be a strategic thinker with excellent decision-making skills, who is able to converse at all levels with high EQ. Your entrepreneurial spirit and proven business-building capabilities will enable you to guide the broader executive along the continued growth path, overseeing all aspects of the financial operations across Paspaley Pearls Group.
You will have a proven track record of executive finance leadership, preferably with some foundational experience in an ASX listed organisation and more recent experience in a conglomerate of companies, including large private or family enterprises with interests in diverse industries both domestically and internationally. Foreign trade and currency exposure would be ideal.
Formal education such as a Bachelor's Degree or MBA in Commerce, Finance, or Accounting with a CA or CPA or equivalent.
