The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role is accountable for the leadership and delivery of all strategic and operational financial activities of the department. This role works closely with the Director-General and Executive management across the department to provide strategic financial advice.

  • Provide strategic advice to the Director-General and Deputy Directors-General relating to financial management practices and capability of the department.
  • Provide strategic advice concerning the financial implications of, and financial risks to, the department's current and projected projects and services.
  • Lead the establishment of Departmental Systems including finance and procurement systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Proactively lead and coordinate the financial and management accounting processes of the department in accordance with relevant legislative, accounting and auditing requirements, including the establishment, maintenance and review of financial internal controls.
  • Lead the development of the department's annual budget, including coordinating the submission of the department's budget to the Cabinet Budget Review Committee.
  • Lead the timely and accurate preparation of relevant reporting to Queensland Treasury and the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, of the department's performance against budget.
  • Lead the timely preparation of the department's external financial statements to facilitate the discharge of the department's statutory reporting obligations.
  • Coordinate, enhance and generate monthly business reports, including detailed variance analysis and advice, ensuring timetables and systems are in place to produce timely, accurate and quality management information.
  • Lead and coordinate the development of financial policies, plans, strategies, and procedures including the maintenance of an up-to-date Financial Management Practice Manual to ensure there is continuous improvement in the financial management of the department.
  • Lead strategic procurement operations and practices efficiently to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate, succinct, targeted-to-audience recommendations and advice to customers, the Director-General and Deputy Directors-General.
  • Represent and promote the department in partnerships, at senior government forums and contribute to whole of government initiatives.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership by ensuring collaborative relationships, delivering on commitments, empowering staff, fostering professional development and implementing the department's corporate values in an environment of strong customer service, teamwork, open communication and innovation.
