About the role
We have a unique and exciting opportunity that has become available for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join the Cancer Care Foundation. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the organization as the operational leader, and provide guidance to ensure program regulations, performance outcomes and operations are managed appropriately and effectively. The position will be based in Miranda, NSW and will report to the CEO.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CEO and the Board of Directors in designing and implementing an organisational vision and operational strategy.
- Collaborate closely with the CEO and translate operations strategy into actionable steps for growth.
- Measure and report company outcomes to the CEO and Board of Directors, including compiling data reported by the Clinical Trials Manager (CTM).
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the organisation, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness across all functional areas of this not-for-profit foundation.
- Communicate effectively with leadership, staff, and stakeholders.
- Utilise research-based strategies, developed in collaboration with the Clinical Trials Manager and Director of Clinical Trials, to support the Foundation’s scientific initiatives and enhance its impact in the field of cancer research and Cancer Care.
- Maintain meticulous attention to detail in all operational processes, including budgeting, compliance, and reporting.
- Lead and motivate a talented team, operating from multiple sites, by providing guidance, support, and mentorship to drive success.
- Ensure effective professional development and performance management of staff.
- Oversee and coordinate recruitment, onboarding, and retention of employees.
- Review and ensure compliance with not-for-profit regulations (ACNC & Ors), company policies and ACHS Standards, in collaboration with the CTM.
- Utilise networking skills to expand the Foundations’ reach and impact within the Cancer Care community.
- Actively identify and apply for research and community grants.
- In partnership with the IT service provider, oversee the IT infrastructure, ensuring the organisation's technology systems are up-to-date, secure, and aligned with industry best practices.
- Evaluate current operational processes and identify areas for improvement, efficiency gains, and cost savings.
- Implement strategies to streamline workflows and enhance cross-functional collaboration.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation across all operational areas.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably as a COO or equivalent within the not-for-profit sector, research organisation, or healthcare industry.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and information to diverse audiences.
- Precision-driven mindset with a keen eye for detail and accuracy in all operational activities.
- Aptitude to effectively manage financials, budgets, and compliance requirements.
- A collaborative and responsive approach to leadership, and the ability to successfully lead teams and drive results.
- Excellent networking abilities, with a proven record of building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
Desirable skills
- Experience in fundraising and organising fundraising events.
- Experience in healthcare and/or clinical trials.
- Social media, marketing and the not-for-profit space.
