We are seeking a Structural Chief Engineer position, who will be part of the Global Product Engineering team providing engineering and technical support to the Metso group for the GBP business unit, focused in Bulk Equipment. Ideally, you must have proven experience performing structural design calculations for Bulk Material Handling equipment, primarily located in Mining locations, Stockyards, Port Plants, etc. Additionally to design functions, you must be capable to perform equipment condition assessments, to write technical reports and lead manufacturing and site investigations.

What you'll do
- Undertake structural concept and design calculations, including computer based analysis for Bulk Material Handling equipment like Rotary Car Dumpers, Reclaimers, Stackers, Shiploaders, etc.
- Work in a global team of engineers, focused on developing productized design as well as standardized design for Bulk Material Handling Equipment, preparing engineering calculations and design ideas & solutions for mechanical equipment.
- Provide technical expertise and supervision on GBP projects and product development in Bulk equipment, leading the harmonization of design approaches.
- Provide Technical support for retrofits and Upgrades for obsolete solutions.
- Working closely with Bulk Product Line and Engineering management to set the Engineering design guidelines and standards for upgrades, retrofits, and refurbishments of mining equipment.
- Provide technical support to all internal groups e.g. Project Management, Procurement, Technical Support, Professional Services, and Product Management to facilitate successful design, delivery, and installation of equipment.
- Apply Structural Engineering knowledge, principles, and best practices to meet customer requirements and specifications.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and designers/drafters. May supervise specialized Engineering personnel as necessary.
- Provide local and global expertise and support in GBP. This includes design, fabrication, quality assurance, sourcing, and troubleshooting. Working with the capital equipment business areas, initiates, executes, maintains, and manages our product specifications, design programs, and various development projects.
- Visit customer offices and plants to determine physical restrictions or limitations for refurbishment, upgrade, or retrofit.
- Investigate structural problems and proposes corrective actions and/or repair procedures.
- Provides technical support to field service representatives. When appropriate, makes recommendations to improve field methods and efficiency.
- Performs other duties and tasks as may be assigned by the manager.
Who you are
- Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of ten (10) years acting as Structural Engineer, with relevant experience in engineering design for Bulk equipment for mining, mineral process, or similar heavy industries
- Deep knowledge of main International Standards as ISO 5049-1, FEM Section 2, AISC-ASD, AWS D1.1, ASTM, ASCE-07.
- Advanced knowledge and experience using Structural Analysis Software packages such as Staad Pro, Strap or SAP2000.
- Strong experience related to Steel Fatigue Analysis
- Ability to manage engineering work in multiple projects and product development initiatives
- Valid driver's license and a passport. This position requires infrequent domestic and international travel
- Good communication skills in spoken and written English with ability to work with people from different cultures
