CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST| BASED IN SOUTH TASMANIA

Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialist – Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join their Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

The Position:

An opportunity exists for an experienced Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to consider a career move to Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Health Service seeks to appoint a Child Psychiatrist to a position with the  Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Hospital Team which will be responsible for working in a mental health assessment treatment, and consultation liaison service for children and young people at the Hospital. The service is for young people aged up to 18 years.

The Team includes a Clinical Nurse Consultant, a Senior Allied Health Professional and a Psychologist. The Team works in an environment with excellent links with Paediatric staff within the hospital and the CAMHS community team.  The service is offered during weekdays and is based near the hospital in the region.

  • While this is a permanent full-time day work vacancy, Psychiatrists interested in the diversity offered in a shared hospital and community role with other consultants or in a community role are encouraged to make contact. 

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) provides a statewide service for infants, children and young people up to 18 years, and perinatal mental health service for expectant mothers.

They work closely with families to provide support and specialist treatment.

They offer assessment, education and treatment services for a range of mental difficulties such as:

  • anxiety disorders
  • attachment disorders
  • autism spectrum disorders - specifically assist with assessment and/or mental health related symptoms
  • eating disorders
  • major depression and mood disorders
  • mental health concerns in pregnancy and following birth
  • psychosis
  • severe emotional trauma and adjustment problems
  • suicide risk and self-harm.

They are family centred - Before any treatment and supports are provided, they consider the young person and their family situation. The Service also consider how the treatment may impact their future and what other services may help or need to be involved.

The team:

They have a diverse team of health professionals who know how to work with young people. Their team work together and consult with each other on a regular basis.

The team consists of:

  • Administrative support staff
  • Child and Perinatal Psychiatrists
  • Clinical Nurse Specialists
  • Clinical Psychologists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Psychiatric Registrars
  • Social Workers
  • Speech Pathologist (available in the South only).
