The Role
The Child & Youth DFV Counsellor role is to provide counselling to children and young people aged 5-17 years who have been exposed to domestic and family violence. The role is to also address the impacts of trauma on children and young people using an integrated theoretical counselling approach, the development of safe therapeutic relationships and, in collaboration with the rest of the team, to nurture healthy relationships within the family unit.
Counselling and support activities (such as group work) with children and young people aim to support Service Users to express their feelings and support them to understand their fears, emotions and behaviours and to establish support around each Service User to help manage the impact of domestic and family violence. The support aims to assist the Service User to deal with the domestic and family violence to which they have been exposed, help break the often cyclical, intergenerational nature of domestic and family violence, and to help move towards recovery.
About You
This role requires tertiary qualification in counselling, social work, psychology, or human services (alongside relevant experience) received from a recognised university. Minimum 2 years’ experience and skills in working effectively with and conducting counselling and group work for children and young people who have experienced Domestic and Family Violence, utilising evidence-based counselling practices including but not limited to play therapy, creative/expressive therapies, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy etc.
Salary and Benefits
- SCHADS Level 5.1 ($47.50p/h) | Part-Time (22.5 Hours Per Week)
