Child Wellbeing Coordinator

This role is the district-wide strategic lead on child protection, focusing on capacity building, consultation, and policy adherence. Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Collaborating closely with the Child Wellbeing Unit (CWU) to manage high-risk referrals.
• Reviewing case files and consulting with health workers and HNE partner agencies
• Providing targeted and responsive child protection training and support.
• Leading Safety Action Meetings for the district and participating in Newcastle sector meetings.

Based in Wallsend, the role collaborates closely with the CWU as part of HNE’s assessment and response to child protection and wellbeing.  In the role, you will benefit from strong Aboriginal cultural leadership and consultation, which are readily accessible. Additionally, the role is part of a statewide support network of Child Wellbeing Coordinators.

Our successful candidate works closely alongside project and program leads, as well as managers of operational teams, and receives robust support from Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) managers. VAN is a highly structured and supportive unit, providing supervision and support to all team members.

About you:

You have a deep understanding of child protection, particularly in assessing and responding to issues within a health setting. You are experienced and comfortable with collaborative consultation.

Key qualities you possess include being reflective of the challenges inherent in child protection and maintaining well-being in a demanding work environment. Your effective self-management skills are essential for navigating this difficult practice area and supporting health workers across the entire District

Requirements:

• Tertiary qualifications in social science, social work or other relevant discipline.
• Eligibility to drive in NSW.

• This position is full time; however, part time/job share arrangements may also be considered.
